I've been picking on and off for little over a year now. But my set has been pretty consistent. SO Short hook SO Slimline hook SO L Rake <- my cheat tool SO Half diamond SO Double ended Short hook/s-rake <- Keep that in my wallet. SO Double ended tension wrench: Slimline and regular x2 hacksaw blade slimline hook picks x2 twisted tension wrench made from car door shim <-- I love these bad boys! Keep one in my wallet and one with my set. Folded and twisted paper clip tension wrench <- was intended to be used as temporary wrench until I found my double ended one, but it worked so well that I ended up keeping it in my wallet. I'm done with buying/making picks for now, I want more a bigger variety of tension wrench but I keep procrastinating. I want to show off my tension wrenches because they are truly wonderful on security pins.

NDE dino 4pc extra grip pick set, with a bunch of self made tension tools lockaid mechanical pick gun klom electric pick gun inox spray a plug flipper i made from a small flat blade screwdriver, a pop rivet stem and a rubber band, which iv found to work better than commercial offerings dino ottoscope with LED and pick attachment, most locksmiths in australia use colour coded pins. if the lock has these pins in it i can hand file a key from reading the coloured pins. milk carton cut into squares
DE small self made slide hammer i made from a 8 inch length of 1/2 inch bar stock, 3 inch length of 2 inch bar stock with a 1/2 inch hole drilled in the centre, an old chuck from a drill and a tungsten screw tig welded to the chuck. used very rarely for emergency situations.

I'll play. Image is pretty big (obviously), so... clicky linky. Should be obvious what most of the stuff is, but there are a few bits and bobs which aren't so I'll just list it all. Standard picks: Southord slimlines, petersons (ken's blue set), majestic wiggler rakes, pink's 13 piece set (rebranded majestics), falle #3-4 hook and #3-4 curve, southord jackknife, goso dimples. Lever picks: dangerfield padlock picks, 2-in-1 for 5g non-curtain, couple of basic wires, chris belcher reversible pocket curtain picks (5g & 7g). Disc detainer: standard front tension, modified front tension for profile discs, standard rear tension, homebrew 2-in-1 for 40mm, mini homebrew 2-in-1 for 30mm, homebrew picks consisting of seperate wire and tensioner, and a turning tool. Other: Basic warded picks, assorted bump keys, rubbish jigglers, slightly more reliable euro jigglers, tibbie pick, goso auto wrench (from the big goso set, not pictured), ICL plug spinner, southord LAT-17 snap gun, homebrew jackknife-esque pocket set (see here and here for close-ups), and last but not least the ratyoke offset half diamond with anodised aluminium handle (it'd be a sin not to include a close-up of that one). Since that pic was taken I've also acquired a gold-plated storm half diamond and a beautiful boxed set from violaetor. There's a bunch of other misc and homebrew stuff but I'm not gonna bother rooting around for pics of all that too. Thanks for looking.

WOW! Some of you have a lot of stuff! I have a HPC Tubular pick, Lockaid pick gun and a HPC Novice pick set in the van. I'm curious about the comment earlier about other things you would find in a master locksmiths toolbox. I must be missing some tools in my box I would need a second van just to carry around some of the stuff a few of y'all have.

I am thinking some of these guys are more hobbyists than working locksmiths. I have about 3 picks, a few homemade tension wrenches and the Peterson pry bars. I have a Peterson bump hammer but a screwdriver handle works as well for me. I make a bump key on the job when I need one, I don't carry any. I use the A-1 spinner daily. I also use an under the door tool, I have a few tools for manipulating latches and I have a 18 volt rotary pick. I sometimes will impression my way in if the lock is hard to replace. My pick case is falling apart.

cledry, 18 volt rotary pick.........you make me laugh:)))))
I'd play this game, but it wouldn't be fair...I've been locksmithing for 30 years.
However, some of you kids have some toys I'm envious of.

I use a Southord MPXS-20, but I took out the duplicate picks (not sure why it came with duplicate half diamonds, small hooks, and c rakes?) I changed the double ball pick into a rake, and the half round into a small hook Made the rubbish half diamond it comes with into a functional half diamond and made the large hook into a large hook that can actually fit into a lock... Modified some of the other picks as well. Added some homebrew picks made from hacksaw blades and feeler gauge stock (0.020") (I highly recommend McMaster-Carr for this, got it two days later with ground shipping) Modified the southord tension wrenches for more variety Snap Pick from a windshield wiper Leatherman Core Assorted Shims Assorted bobbypins (Sometimes I pick better with a modified bobbypin than my pick set, they give great feedback. But not all bobbypins are created equal...)
I also ordered some brass feeler gauge stock, and I'm undecided on what type of picks to make from it. Probably some rakes? I figured it would be easier on the pins that steel, but I don't imagine it will last or hold its shape with heavy use. Maybe they'll be special occasion picks.
