Investing in a plug spinner

I have plans to purchase a plug spinner in about two weeks and was wondering if anybody here has recommendations on one in particular. I've looked around a bit but I'm afraid at getting one and finding out that it doesn't work well. I figured people here would be rather knowledgeable on what would be sufficient.

I have the Rytan plug spinner that looks like a pen (RY5798). It works awesome but if you don't secure it down it will smack the crap out of your finger tips

I have a DINO gun plug spinner like the one here, http://www.lockpicks.com/guntypeplugspi ... dtips.aspx and I love it. It's got a really strong coil spring and you can adjust the spring tension to your liking better then most other spinners I've used.

But it is a bit pricey so another option is this one, http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16415 . The quality is not as good as the first one and the tips it comes with will need to be filed or grinded down a little to fit in most locks but it still does a pretty good job and the price is right.

That's the first thing I tried. I didn't find a whole lot so I felt it would be alright to make a topic.

I was considering going with one of the SouthOrd pen style spinners but someone was complaining about poor spinning ability.

Thanks for the links, Eyes_Only. I had already viewed the DINO gun but found it to be far out of my price range. I might look into the DealExtreme one but most everything I get from that site is really poorly made.

My personal recomendation is the A-1 Spinnakur, it is the best I have used, I traded off an hpc because I prefered the A-1 over it, and I am an HPC fan, the A-1 was just better.

Does anyone have a Peterson plug spinner and if so what do they think of it?

I use the Rytan 57. I have used it for a couple years, and it has held up great. I have only had to change the blade a couple of times.

For a short while I used their plastic one (5798), but it ended up busting on me after only a couple of months.

Make one of these:



Nothing more than Wood Dowel, Mouse Trap Spring, and a bent Windshield Wiper Insert. Total cost $5 at most and I have almost a 100% success rate with it. When using it, bend the L part from the 9 O'Clock position counter-clockwise to the 3 O'Clock position; insert into lock; and let go.

How do you keep the spring tip from loosening in the dowel, or has that not been a problem?

Well normally I would probably use epoxy but in this case I was out of epoxy so I used zap-a-gap actually lol. It is strong enough because the sharp part of the spring gets pushed into the dowel during normal use.

Hi ChemicalRobot, everytime i read about plug spinner i cant help but smile when i look at my home made plug spinner. its just working 100% . it is just so easy to make. anyway since you're looking for a brand, Rytans plug spinner is alright, just be familiar on how to use it. however, if you have an industrious hand try to see my entry, "the amazing plug spinner" might change your mind. regards.

I recently replaced my BDS plug spinner with this new HPC one and have found it to work wonders.
It has a function which restricts the amount of tension you can preload the spring steel with, making it difficult to break prematurely.
I know of many guys who swear by the Dino gun type plug spinner, but I am yet to try it.
