Hmmm, seems like they're making their tracks up north. Thanks to fellow 101 members for saving me the hard earned cash! Typically, Mondays for me bring multiple advertising calls, but I hadn't heard from this one until today. I searched for and browsed this thread while speaking to them on the 'phone as I knew I'd seen thread before.

The guy sounded genuine but a bit too eager for you to sign up there and then. He said they'd got my 'phone numbers from a satisfied customer recommendation rather than the usual from another ad etc..

They must be geting desperate. I told em where to go, but the guy insisted on phoneing back on friday.

Ive had more marketing crap from them than actual calls form the advert. What makes me laugh is that when i took out the the ad over a year ago they were making a big thing of the directory they were publishing, well just got some more marketing crap about how its going to print now in my area !! Well 15 months to put it together isnt too bad i suppose lets hope it doesnt take that long to deliver it !
My brother in law has had problems with them too recently they have been taking money by direct debit even though hes cancelled the ad, nows hes paying out for legal fees to sort it all out.

We got them down from an initial grand plus to less than what you were quoted Steve, but we still told them where to go. A further salesman still called me again twice a couple of days after and was also told where to go and we were not interested etc. The final call culminated in a 'hang-up' and he still called again but got the answerphone.

Avoid at all costs. As a relative newcomer to the industry, I was almost fooled, but as I said before, it was this thread that made me absolutely certain to tell them where to go. Thanks again Toomush and co.

118trades was on Watchdog last night. No promised paperwork, no promised ad, up to literally thousands taken out of peoples bank accounts without their permission at random times after obtaining customers bank details for the deposit.

Steer well clear.

I think that shows how valuable being a member if a site such as this one can be....

If i had not stumbled across this thread i may well have been taken in, and could now be suffering from the consequences or even worse out of business.

I made em hold for twenty mins and then told them to 'sod off' by the way. Well that was the polite version

But a lesson for us all. Read the threads and pay attention

One lady on Watchdog, who runs a limo hire firm, is almost out of business due to them. Her limo's are on finance and because she is over £6k overdrawn the bank isn't releasing any money to pay her DD for them.

118trades helped contribute to this overdraft when they took over £5.5k out of her bank without permission or warning, £4.6k two days before Xmas.

They also spoke to a plumber who had to shut his bank account after they took £3.5k out in various lumps and sums, again without permission.

I joined up with 118 about 6 months ago and have had 5 jobs so far and got the cost of the ad back and still have 12 months left to run so not that great but not that bad either. They quoted me £1000 for the ad campaign but i kept knocking them down and got £400 in the end so if you are joining 118 trades make sure you get a great deal. they are also doing an ad campaign about locksmiths or so they said so this should get us lockies even more jobs from it

Maybe it's just me being cynical but someones first post on the day they joined the forum almost singing the praises of a company whom no one else seems to have had a good experience with. Please someone tell me it is me being a cynic.

£400 in 5 jobs, ok reasonable if lock supply and fitting was needed but for £400 i would want more than 5 jobs in 6 months.
