You dont really need one unless there are a lot of lever locks in your area for some reason.

Darn, you really make it sound like you need some kind of reason to get new toys. I'm sure I'm not the only one on the site who not only puts some effort into getting new tools but also into getting locks to use the tools on

OK good point. i general pick local locks most of the time but i have a few from the states i have to get special tools for.

I have the tubes and bar, I'm just trying to find silver solder at this point. There's a jeweler's supply place and some model train shops I need to call when they're open tomorrow. Anyone have any other ideas? I'd rather have it now than wait for an internet order.
Failing that I'm tempted to just go ahead with whatever crppy lead free hardware store solder I have around...

In case anyone else is having trouble finding silver solder, the jeweler's supply store was where I found mine. It seems to be fairly standard kit for them. Make sure you get the flux that goes with it too.

dont buy the fancy jewelers flux, its for gold and silver only, just use the white paste flux, that will work on base metals.

What I was given is "non-fluoride silver solder flux", "Low temp flux [for] brazing and silver soldering ferrous and non-ferous metals" - Dandix brand.
It has a weird foamy consistency. Funny that "low temp" is above 1200 degrees F here.
I did mention that I was working with brass, and indeed it does its job just fine.
