On the last weekend of october, the Germans held their lockpicking chamionships. The list of locks is online. See for yourself...

OMG! looking at some of the times some of those people pick those locks is ridiculous! My fastest time is :05 seconds..........on a master no.3

lol I couldn't imagine picking any of those that fast. those guys must have some serious raking skills. Or, are they using bumping? I can't read german

Ah! I just noticed that someone picked the Sargent & Greenleaf w/Medeco core that i have! I can't believe it. Someone picked it in 1:51 seconds! I've cursed and cursed...and made up new curse words at this thing trying to get it open for about 6 months now. I can't believe someone got it open that fast :shock:

I bow to them

As far as I know they don't use bump keys. Only tension wrenches and standard picks, only in "freestyle", advanced tools like (electric) pick guns etc. are allowed.

I noticed this too, wow! The big thing here is that these are lock which the contestants had no prior experience with/knowledge of (bitting, keyway, picking practice, etc..) if I'm not mistaken. I have gotten times like that on my biaxial before, but that was after practicing at it for hours and hours everyday for a month or two. The Germans are insane! :-)

It's not exactly 1:51 seconds, it's 1:51 minutes (1min./51sec.) but still not bad!
I also looked at the page and couldn't find the master #3

Yea, 1:51 seconds & 1:51 minutes is the same thing

now if it had been 1.51 seconds! I'd declare that dude a god. But yea, it's insane how fast they open locks. Oh, in case you guys can't read german, you can get the whole page translated at http://world.altavista.com/
Oh, and I think you misunderstood me when I was talking about the master #3. they didn't have the master #3 in their competition. that's my own score. i think they would laugh if anyone brought one of those out at the competition

My German isn't great (in fact awful), but some of the locks show that on a number of attempts they could not be opened. I don't know whether the times are the same person or different people. The DOM iX, Medeco and MulTLock openings are really impressive. Holy c_r_a_p did they really pick an ASSA Twin? :shock:

It's one thing to finally learn to pick your fancy high-security lock with the pinning you have a key for, or with a simplified learning pinning - it's quite another to be able to pick one that you've never encountered before.

@greyman: As far as i know, every contestant brings his own lock with him. He has to open it in a certain time (padlocks and locks for "Freestyle" have to be opened in 3 minutes, cylinders for hand opening in 5 minutes). Then, every lockpicker in the group gets 5 Minutes resp. 15 minutes per lock to open the locks of his fellows. So the "EigenÃ¶ffnung" is the time the person who brought the lock with him (or her) took to open the lock, the other times are opening times from other lockpickers.
Which answers the comment of Gordon: the most impressive times are the times in the lists besides the pictures, as these people had no knowledge about the lock they would encounter.

This is very impressive, why is it only the germans have competitions like this? are there any more countries that does this anyone know?
will the US ever do this?

because in Germany there's only one Lockpicking association. I don't know how it is in the states but I think there're many of them.
