Could someple indeitfy a Chubb padlock for me please?

Postby Ezz » Mon Apr 04, 2011 11:39 pm

Hi all, apologies I posted this before in Pick FU but I guess it was the wrong place and is more suited to here?

Hi, still noob here, down the car boot today I picked up a big chunky Chubb padlock that had no key. The guy wanted £5 for it even though he knew it had no key but when I put it back down he immediately dropped his price to a mere 50p!! I picked it up despite the fact that it's most likely way beyond my experience level which let's face it is pretty much zero.

Anyway, could someone please have a look and tell me what it is?? I've attached some photo's below, in terms of dimensions it's 7.5cm wide, 2.2cm thick and 5cm tall.

May be willing to swap if it's going to be years away for me?

Hi Ezz, welcome to the forum. You did a bargain by getting that for just 50p

Your lock can be identified by looking on google, I'm sure you can do that. A quick image search using "chubb padlock" returned me a lot of images, the one which looks similar to yours is called "Chubb 1K12C Padlock".

You're still a beginner, so I suggest you to put it aside for now. That padlock probably has some security pins, so trying to pick it now will be frustrating. I don't suggest you to swap it, shipping such a heavy lock will be more than the cost of buying a double cylinder with keys. Then you can disassemble it and practice, following db's exercise. Once you can consistently pick a standard lock (or padlock), give this nice chubb a try.

Cheers :)

Thanks for the advice, I'll set that one aside for now. Yes i've seen db's guide and started there, I knew the chubb would be half decent and way beyond a beginner but for 50p I couldn't resist,

Thanks ag ai n

A good buy for 50p

It has definately got security pins in.

Find something else to learn on, and set that padlock aside as a long term goal.

Keep practicing, follow the steps, and you'll get there.
It's all about the tension . . .

Cheers, i've got a couple of euro locks which i've re-pinned to 2, 3 and 4 pins which i've been practicing with and can tell i'm becoming more familiar with the feedback. I've put the chubb aside, I know it will be a while before there's any point trying it but for 50p I figured it was a decent investment.
