Dorma makes Abloy Classic

Postby Wizer » Fri May 04, 2012 6:54 pm

A customer had an Abloy Classic key he wanted to copy. A normal thing in many ways, I cut maybe 10-20 abloys a day. But the keyhead had a Dorma logo on it. I´ve cut keys for maybe 8 years, but have never seen this. Now this is not big news, I´ve seen other imitations of Abloy before. Dorma, however, is a major lock company, and the "Classic" key had the same spacing & depths as original Abloy. I wonder if Dorma blanks would be cheaper than Abloys??
After some googling I found this:

Here in the states Dorma has made it a habit of purchasing items from other manufacturers, marking up the price and putting a sticker with their logo and part number on the original box.

They also provide numerous key blanks for other mfg keyways with the Dorma logo coined on the head. They are normally about twice the price of original blanks from the original mfg.
