Locksport in the UK

Postby JackNco » Sat Sep 29, 2007 7:15 am

OK so America, Canada and mainland Europe all have meetings and groups setup. There are plenty of hobby pickers around. so why not?

I have talked to Digital_Blue and it sounds like we could have some good fun with a L.I group setup in the UK. its always fun to have a bit of competition, after all the community is what keeps locksport going, in this more so than most hobbies. So if anyone is interested PLEASE post in here. if there is enough interest ill set it up and we can get something going.

All the best

John

NO reason it has to be limited to a single location. be fun to have some native competition.

why is it you all live miles away. I mean I live 17miles from the second biggest city in the UK and theres 300,000 in Coventry. .. you would think there would be one person in traveling distance.

Sorry dude, seems that we're all a little underepresented here in the UK!

We should get a mission on and all meet up in a central point. Make a weekend of it!

Ironically, I lived in Devon pretty much my whole life, but i fled up north for uni and got stuck here. Now it seems that i'm bloody miles from anyone who shares similar interests!

I take it there's no locksport club/society in this country at all then? Seems a pity!

It'd be nice to see you guys pull something together. I do believe it's high time that the UK got itself a locksport group.

I mean... if WINNIPEG can make it work.... ;)

well, hey, I just read this thread.

I'd definately be up for it, why don't you guys just move to London? :-)

seriously.... 7ish million people here and I'm the only one in London interested in Locksports?

I'd travel to a meet somewhere in the southeast depending.. :-D

You know there are people in London that don't participate in the forums that are locksporting hobbiest already. They are just not members of lp101. You just have to find them.

On the same note to everyone else. If you really want to have successful meetings you need to plan ahead and have more than just a date where everyone meets up at some bar and maybe picks a few locks. I warn you as Administrative Director (sorry, i dont get to throw out my title very much) :) that if you don't plan well in advance for the meeting, then things will never take off for your chapter. As josh is in the business of helping to start chapters, I will be in the business of helping your chapter succeed.

After you guys work on getting a date set out well in advance, it would be awesome if you found a way to reach out and see if you can contact other hobbiest that otherwise wouldn't be aware of such meetings. The more people involved from the start, the greater the inertia the organization will have to continue having meetings. Then you can start building friendships and blah blah blah. It becomes a wonderful thing.

Keep that in mind throughout this process!

Thanks guys. :)
