For handles on my set of homemade mini-picks (made from wiper blade inserts) I used some of the insulation from the wiring of old computer speakers. The inner diameter of the insulation was about 1/2 the width of the picks, and I used a lighter to soften it up before stretching it over the picks. It's not perfect, but it's better than plain metal pressing into my fingers.
If anyone needs specific info I'll type it up, but it was pretty basic.

Steve, if you want a more uniform or blemish free (from the lighter) finish you may find you get good results if you place the insulation in boiling water for a min or two (dont keep it boiling) to soften it, should work a treat.

Most of the handles went over the flame fast enough to soften without marring the plastic, but next time I make some I'll give boiling a shot.

I also found boiling water to work well, but dont keep in to long or it just becames a mess and to hard to work with.

Step by step processes usually are long winded as they are supposed to tell the reader everything they are supposed to know or need to know to accomplish the task at hand, if it was incomplete it would get re-written or simply slatyed for missing bits out, do a job do it properly,
Maybe you can have a go at making some decent picks now
J/k
The lsi guide did it in less wording because we used pics instead, as i knew i wouldnt be able to put the pics on this thread i went into things a little more,

Great guide,
I found a nice video on www.youtube.com showing how to make the tools.
But I would recomend to buy the first set of tools rather than making them. Else your will blame the lock picking failure on the tools.
My opinion.
