Is SouthOrd a respectable brand?

I've always been pleased with SouthOrd's slimline picks. Feedback, quality, durability, versatility, etc. I agree (as it's been said) some additional sanding/smoothing is a good idea for functionality. But it's probably safe to say that goes for just about any purchased picks.

I got a Southord MPXS-14 "blemished" set. For the life of me I cannot find what is "blemished" about them. I think this set is great for beginners to learn the basics. Later on, I plan on getting a different set and by that time I'll know better what I need and works for me.

I got the kit with the stainless steel reusable handle. Three weeks in and the bloody screw has threaded and now the handle is useless. Other than that the picks themselves are great

My SouthOrd slimlines have a much better finish than my more expensive Peterson's.

I recently bought a Southord c2010 slimline 22 piece pick set from lockpickshop.com and it is brilliant. They are very strong and durable. I would reccomend them!!

Just Got an email from south ord after contacting them. They are sending me a whole new handle for free. Now considering A. I only spent about $30 dollars plus shipping & B. I am in australia so shipping an item from the US costs a bit. I think that is awesome customer service. I definatly reccomend them as a supplier they stand by there products and reply to emails fast. I think i will continue to buy from them as i have never had problem. Oh And the picks work great ( nearly forgot to say that).

i have southord tubular, double sided and electric and gun picks as well as a 62 piece set and a blemished set from the southord outlet. i love all there products, though i find the reinforced handles are way more comfortable than the standard handles on picks. i bought these picks years ago. from what i was told by david storm (lockpicking for the new millenium) southord has gone downhill a bit. they are using chinese steel and material sources. picks are not as good as they use to be, but i still use em.

I am David Storm and I still endorse Southord %100, I bought my first pickset from Southord in 1983 from soldier of fortune magazine. Every tool in my video is southords tools and they are still kicking out the newest and most inovative products. My upcoming video will be filled with their products. Show me any other set out there that can take the abuse soutord picks can take. You can bend there pick to a 90 degree angle and straighten it multiple time (I know because I do it dozens of time at a single show) and they will not break. If you're bending their tools then you are applying way too much pressure and need to revisit your techniques.

There are several individuals out there saying they are me both in person and in forums. At one point one person told me that he spoke with David Storm at a gunshow and that he was heavy set, short and had a full beard. I am 6'1", never weighed more than 180 pounds and never had a full beard that I can rememebr since I was 20 years old (8 years before my first gunshow). So just to set the record straight I love Southord products and would never say their products were sub par. So Nismo-san, I'm not calling you a liar I just don't think you spoke to me.

Never heard of them before joining this forum. I guess they just don't market to professional locksmiths as much as they do for those who pick as a hobby. HPC and Rytan are the two big names in the industry. Not that they are any better, it is just that they are marketed to a different target audience.

I've ordered from them (The pocket pick set) and the pick set was great quility from what i can tell. Also, if i'm not mistaken, the company that sponsors this site also sells SouthOrd picks. On top of that, the thread for newbies that explains where to buy, and What to buy, suggests a pick set from SouthOrd. The blemished pick sets are also fairly inexpensive.

I have a 7 piece set +2 tension wrench slimset from SouthOrd.

They are pretty good, but I found the half diamond, the big hook and the jiggle picks were too sharpe-edges, had problem moving inside the lock. After smoothing them with sand paper, however, they did the job. I also had the impression that they were quite too flexible, I just need to do a little more force than needed and they move a bit. I'm a beginner, so it happens that I put too much strenght in my picking, and I almost broke the snake one.

Beside this two things, the tension wrenches were very good (I just smoothed the angles of the big one), the leather bag is perfect, little and easy to carry, the handle good, not a bad feedback.

That's my first a little bit more serious set, so I cant make nice comparison
