Legalities of Shipping/Owning lock picks

So then not being a locksmith or falling into those categories as im wanting this as a hobby like most of you, is it safe for me to order? or should i contact the online store before i place an order and double check with them?

you just necroed this thread, but to answer your question.... as far as I know, as long as you order from places that this site says will sell to hobbyists, like Lockpickshop you don't have to check with them. If you want to be safe, go ahead and send them an email saying your a hobbyist and would be interested in their picks and I'm sure most will be more than happy to help you out. some places I have ordered from are DX, lockpickshop, and sparrows.

you will be fine if choosing to order... I have some experience with ordering things that technically fall under against the law but it always arrives fine since there is no way to check and no way to check each individual state/ jurisdiction.

Some countries are prohibiting the shipping of those items. But in some cases it should be declared as locksmith training kit or something like that. Anyway, it should be ship through shipping companies not an individual.

I just had to post here to ask my question as I just got a slightly bit nervous.

I actually posted here about a year ago asking how to making my own picks, didn't get around to doing it and now I told myself I might just order them instead!

I live in Switzerland and there is a group of lock picking hobbyist online so I thought it should be fine to order.

Can someone confirm that it is legal to have picking tools sent to your home in Switzerland (from the US)?

Should I contact the police and ask if it is ok, a bit late though as I already ordered the picks...

Well as it turned out I had no need to worry. The package had no marking suggesting that there would be lock picks inside and the value was so small that there was no tax to be paid. No idea about the legal question, but I got my picks! No its practice time!
