The purpose of this post is to outline the duties that the moderators of
lp101 carry out, and also to describe the sort of duties that we will not do.
The duties of moderators
As suggested by the title, the primary duty of a moderator is to keep
threads on track and in focus on the specific discussion the initial poster
To that end, it is important that at all times the moderator keep a civil and
professional attitude while encouraging forum users to follow the
guidelines as set forth in the rules FAQ. (HERE)
This means that the moderator must follow the same set of rules that
everyone else does.
When taking disciplinary measures in the case of a breach of the
guidelines and rules, the moderator will do so with courtesy and respect.
That is, in most cases it will be necessary to pm the offender and in a
polite and firm message state:
1. The offense committed.
2. The place where the guidelines are listed.
3. An example of how to modify conduct in order to comply with the
the exception to this is rule number 8: "Posts/threads referring to illegal
activity will be deleted without notificiation."
The secondary, and equally as important as the first, purpose of a
moderator is to keep the site neat, clean, and organized.
Each moderator has been assigned, or has taken on the task of
moderating particular forums. Each moderator takes their responsibility
seriously and will attempt to look at least 10 or so post prior to signing off.
Moderators may also adjust things not in their primary area of
responsibility if need be.
The third and also equally as important task of the moderator team is to
initiate discussion, and encourage posters to get actively involved in the
site, including doing such things as FAQ threads etc.
1. Vote on advanced forum entry - three votes get's a person in
2. discuss and vote on site changes - the site admin has the final word
3. discuss and vote for potential new mods.
What Moderators do NOT do
Please appreciate that the mods are all donating their time in
moderating the site. The above duties are our primary concern, and as a
general rule, we will not do any of the following:
Moderators do not babysit
We are not babysitters, nor are we counsellors. I know people take
offense when other people get rude to each other, and when it affects the
performance of the site we'll deal with it severely, but we honestly can't
expect to keep everyone happy all the time.
Whatever goes on in im's, pm's or emails is the private business of the
members of the forum. If people want to argue and have at each other
wasting valuable time, that's their perogative. We WILL NOT as
moderators/admins get involved in personal disputes between forum
members except as they might disturb the flow of the site (e.g. public
Moderators are not omniscient
Moderators are chosen because of their willingness to contribute to this
forum as best they can, not solely because of their knowledge of the
subject at hand. do not expect a moderator to be able to answer any
question that you PM/email them with, although they will endevour to be
helpful, they may not know the answer.
Moderators are not omnipresent
if you see a deliberate breach of a forum rule, don't be afraid to PM a
moderator. generally, if a Mod seems to be "involved" in a thread, they
will see any foul language or refferences to illegal activity or degeneration
into flame wars and correct it. however mods may miss some posts and
appreciate members of the forum bringing these to their attention.
Moderators are not omnipotent
Moderators do not have the ability to make changes to the site. we only
have the ability to modify/delete/move posts and threads.
Should you require changes to your account for whatever reason, pm SFGOON or Digital_Blue with your request.
