This is great! I have about 30 of the commercially made shims (from Southord) and yours work just about as well. Thanks.

Thanks for the guide! It was clear and concise. Pictures helped a lot.

I just made my first shims today, but unfortunately wasn't able to open either combination lock I tried it on. They were "first watch" locks. I checked several other sources on how to make shims and I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right. There was mention of certain locks being un-shimmable. I'm just wondering what quality makes a lock impossible to shim. How can I tell if the lock is un-shimmable or if I'm just mucking it up?

Nice guide, unbreakable. I wanted to add that these shims also work on Abus combo locks (No 78) as I just found out earlier today.

i dont know how to make the tip right?
ive made a lot of them and they all dont work?
ive tried thicker metal but they still dont work?
how do i make the point correctly?

unbreakable
You have pretty nice guide. There is a lot of nice steaps, that I didn't know before.
I found a mistake. In the "Materials" part, there is material #3 and another material #3, that suppose to be #4.
And another one. I think, you can skip the steap, where you cut a bottom of a can. You can just cut it off, like you did with the top.
Thank you!

These are so easy to make, but i think I will try some of the commercial ones now - I dont know what they are made of, but i am hoping that thin stainless might work good. (at least should cut fingers really good) :) Any one used that? Rick

I'm sorry about posting the third reply in this topic, but I forgot to tell something important! When you cut a shim, especially the "almost M shape" you musn't do the tiny cuts. The cut must be flat without any "tiny cuts". If there is a "tiny cuts" the shape would break while using it. So, do the cut really carefully.
