Hey I just got finished making my set. I've got a few tips for anyone making this.

The x-acto #2 is slightly larger than the interior of the sharpie pen (the sizes of the pen or knife might have changed since this was made). I discovered this, and so just thought I could grind down the x-acto to fit in. After doing this, the x-acto pressure fit in very well. The problem was it wasn't 100% smooth, and so it began to strip out the inside of the pen. After a very short time, it had stripped it out enough that it wouldn't hold anymore, it was slightly too big. Luckily I had a second #2 x-acto, and at this point, the smooth, un-grinded x-acto fit in perfectly.

Bottom line: if you have to grind down the x-acto to fit, make sure it's smooth and not gonna strip out the pen interior.

btw, awesome design! This works amazingly!

Holy crap. That's a seriously cool idea! I'm gonna have to try it.

Just reading this myself, and love the concept! I have another suggestion for the tension wrench... At the top of the pen cap, use a very small cutting wheel to cut a narrow slot through either side of the cap. The tension wrench would then be a narrow flat piece that slides half way through this slot, and the cap creates the leverage. You could make two wrenches, with each end having different widths, providing four different sizes of tensions wrenches, and they slip into the pen body nice and flat next to the picks.

Wow that is a beauty! A good idea too, because I live in Canada and I don't know a lot about shipping picks across the border. I am prolly better off making my own.

When I make mine, I'll post some shots!

Thank you!

Sweet, this is awesome!!! Ten picks and a tension tool in a sharpie! Mind= Blown. I need to make this as soon as I can.I'll have fewer picks and an extra tension tool, or maybe do the pocketclip idea.

That's a very swank pick set! Looks very aesthetic as well as functions, but if it's the pen James Bond wish he had, where's the actual pen?! ;)

Good work there!

I stumbled on this post and really liked this idea. Here is my version of what jondoe came up with. I tried to maximize the concealment and the functionality of the picks. I wanted the pen to look like a real pen if someone picked it up. I dried up the ink but I could have left some in it so it would have still written for a while. The pen lid closes fully as I did not modify the top part. This version makes no noise if you shake it and the weight is not noticeable from its real pen counterpart. I hope you like this version, thank you jondoe for the idea. I can get seven picks, pick holder, two wrenches (one thin one heavy) and my noise canceling plug. I tried to get pictures in the post and it would not let me so you can find the pictures in this link http://digitaleyesite.com/pen/penpick.htm

slightly more Bond ish

Tools and supplies
Sharpie Stainless - $6-$7 - http://www.sharpie.com/enUS/Products/Pa ... er(Sharpie Catalog)
X-ACTO X2000 KNIFE - $6.5 - http://www.xacto.com/Product/x3724
Drill/drill press and or DREMEL
3/8 drill bit or DREMEL high speed cutter 115 - http://www.dremel.com/en-us/Attachments ... px?pid=115
5/64 drill bit - OPTIONAL
Montblanc Black Ball Point Ink Refill - $4 - http://www.paradisepen.com/paradise/pro ... pt_id=3138 - OPTIONAL
superglue - mabey

PROCESS
1. disassemble the sharpie and remove the felt tip- set aside and let dry
2. cartridge- from the empty tip, measure 2" 1/8 and cut below the threads
3. get your drill and 3/8 or dremel and 115 and boar out the new tip piece to 1" 7/16 - and cut the tip off at this point ( if your inch skills are lacking http://thesuperinch.com/ )
4. now disassemble the exacto and remove all the ruber - one slit from the included blade to each section
5. the lower of the exacto, cut the threaded part off at 3/8" <---- also need to sand all the grooves off so that it is smooth
6. OPTIONAL --> drill a 5/64 hole centered through the exacto (end to end) starting from the rear of the blade retainer
7. take the felt tip and cut the skinny part off OPTIONAL --> drill a 5/64 hole through the felt tip (end to end)

ASSEMBLY

1. Re-assemble the exacto and slide it into the sharpie you drilled out
2. take the tip you cut off and the felt wiggle it onto the tip of the exacto to fit
3. once the upper tip is fit properly take it off and insert the pen refill ad adjust to fit through the felt for a seamless look
4. now you can mate the sharpie together 100%

NOTES

everyone prefers there own picks so I didn't include pics of mine
now the mont blanc refill can be substituted with a thin cross or similar style refill ( adjust the drill bit accordingly)
also the drilling of the exacto shank can be started with a larger bit in the rear then finished off with the smaller bit towards the top/ clamping side ---the clamp hole is the important part
remember when making your oun picks the BUT needs to be less than 1/4" to propperly fit in the exacto
a drop or two of superglue helps keep the exacto and sharpie sleeve together if theres movement or sliding
I found it was easier to use the dremel when widening the tube - the 3/8 kept biting the plastic and spinning uncontrollably or heating up and warping the plastic

I store the felt tip in the cap when not in use and if you don't want to muck around with it at all you can toss the felt and apply a drop of superglue, push it into the cap and let dry
I broke a bit so i couldn't finish my pen design right now but later today I'll resolve that issue
Use another sharpie to color the tip black

Hi skygear,

welcome to the forum. I appreciate your idea but I'm having a hard time trying to understand your pictures: they're too big for my screen and I can see only a piece at a time. Next time remember that picture size should be 800x600 max.

Cheers :)

Resize your pictures! please!

I'm going to experiment and see what I can fit into my cheap staples xeno pens. They're pretty thick... will post results.
The BiLock isn't the first bump proof pin tumbler because it isn't a pin tumbler.
And it's called a shear line, not a "sheerline".
