New idea wrenches for pen pick set

Postby zeepia » Wed Jun 13, 2012 10:32 pm

Hi,

I found that James Bond sharpie pen pick set topic and I LOVED it! And now I´m making one. But I developed a few wrench ideas for you all who are going to make a smaller set in a smaller pen. Sharpie has a lot of room inside but how about when you want to make a slim version with only maybe two picks and two different size wrenches. Then you dont have so much room available anymore.

I made these three wrenches at my work today, here are results. Please don´t comment the lack of polish, these are only prototypes to test for the best one available.

this is my favourite so far as it is very sturdy. You can make several wrenches with different width and only one handle. First I dremeled a groove in a M4 bolt and wrenches are all made from street bristles. Then a M4 nut there and it doesn´t need any excess force to close, works very nice with fingers. Dremel cutting wheel is just the same thickness as my bristles.

Second one is made from linch pin or cotter pin or whatever that is in english ;) First I hammered the round folding spot little flatter so that is a tight fit but works with fingers when you change different wrench in it. Then shrink tube to handle to keep the pin together.

This works also well, not so sturdy though.

Last one is the best one in my opinion (in saving space) when I finish it tomorrow. I took first metal stick I could find for handle, a round 4mm hinge pin. Should have taken something flat and then it stroke me at home, handle must be of course also from street bristle! Then drill a 2mm hole through them all and M2 bolt and nut (which I dont have today...) to secure them tight. It is like a feeler gauge, so I invented a wheel again.

This one I couldn´t test yet but I think it will be the one found inside my James Bond Sharpie!

Very clever ideas 8)

First and last models are the ones I like the most, because I guess that the second one isn't that good. I haven't had it in my hands so it may be very good too...

Cheers :)

Thanks!

Here is the last one finished. My bristles are 3,2mm width, second is grinded to 2,7mm and smallest is 2,2mm. The result is surprisingly good, I tightened bolt well so they are very sturdy. Couldn´t find any nylock nuts for M2 thread so that´s why there are two normal nuts. And a little bit of superglue between them.
