When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Raimundo,
If that is the case Sir, I cannot find it. I have searched and searched. Perhaps a few bread-crumbs...

I got this small bogota from Ray, he made it so small to pick dimple locks like the ISEO. It's enough to give the lock a couple of light strokes to get a false set. With an half diamond it takes me at least a minute. Then I swap pick and insert this half diamond I made to pick the remaining 1 or 2 pins and get the lock open. This way the lock can be picked a lot quicker. I made this half diamond with a Ray-style handle... it's very effective. I still need to perfect its shape, since it's not as comfortable as Ray's one. Cheers

Hey Femurat. That half diamond look quite interesting. What material is it made out of, wiper blade insert? Do you hold it in the same manner as the bogota? Great looking pick! I think the quad is one of the only bogota's I don't have. Ed

Hi edsmiley, the half diamond was a piece of street cleaning bristle before I found it lying on the side of the road. I can say I saved it I hold it like a bogota, but with the hand turned 90 degree ccw. Imagine to hold a credit card vertically between your thumb and index fingers. Then add your middle finger to control its rotation. The handle is not perfect, I'm planning to bend another one differently to see if it's more comfortable. On a different note, making it together with the bogota could help its portability. Cheers

I hadn't heard of the photo essay Ray had done until today (there is just so much to wade through about the Bogotas). Anyhow, the link was dead, but my Haitian friend worked a little Vodou and it can be seen now at http://web.archive.org/web/201001070844 ... ogota.html. So, now I'm wondering what other resources on how to make my own am I still overlooking. I've seen the hand-drawn guides, which are also awesome, and lots of photos (thanks everyone), but still no photos of the ergo handles being held. I've also seen this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjCcpjaUV3I, which is great, though I'd love to see more. I have found posts saying peak-to-peak measurements could be anywhere from 6.1mm to 7.8mm, so I'd like some clarity there, but even with a fast and hard number, I'd still end up experimenting. Also, someone wrote that 2.5mm tall blanks may be just right, but the consensus seems to be that for most locks, taller peaks would be better. Again, I'll have to experiment. The coolest pro tip I've come across is that the half diamond can unlock handcuffs. I've got great access to wiper blade inserts if anyone needs some. Just PM me if you would like some. I'm in the US, but they are light enough I would consider shipping abroad if you really can't find anything around. Cheers, D

I would like to be able to get some high quality street sweeper bristles or steel and titanium that is basically the same size a street sweeper bristles. Does anyone have a source? As far as Raimundo is concerned, the guy is a really nice guy, to say the least.

That ^ does anyone have a good source for these materials??? I don't see many street sweepers in my area and I really don't have time to follow them around hoping for parts to fall off.

A great source for metals in general is McMaster-Carr at mcmaster.com. Great company to do business with, very friendly and accommodating.
Im not sure the sell metal in bristle-dimensions, though its worth looking, they have a massive selection. You can however buy 6"x6" and up sheets of all kinds of metal, titanium included. Requires more work, but you get more material, and if you have the tools to work it, can be extremely efficient.

I should add, they sell all kinds of interesting and useful things.
Their feeler gauges make good picks as well.

So after lurking forever and not posting too much, I'd figured I'd add a few of the tools that I've made. As far as sweeper bristles go, it took me awhile to actually find them, but now I find them when walking around. I just check the road if I'm walking around and find them on occasion. There's a couple of spots (beat up pieces of road near hills) that seem to collect them a bit more than others that I check a bit more frequently.
