Question about Lock Care.

I have several Key Locks indoor and outdoor and I was wondering what is the best way to keep them operating smoothly?

I have Penetraiting Graphite Oil (Outside locks) Powdered Graphite (inside locks)

And the same question about car locks Ignition and Door, can you use graphite on modern car locks? with all the electronic
chips and sensors is it safe? or are their other products that work for them.

The reason for this car question is that I have a 2000 Saturn and the ignition lock is sticking, I am sure that most of this is due to the key wear so any ideas short of having new keys made.

I had a similar issue with the ignition of my '98 saturn. Have you noticed that putting the car back in gear then to park would allow you to remove the key? The fix we had for that one was to replace the shifter switch and it hasn't had that issue since.

Yes, I have the same issue. I rebuilt the engine and trans after my mom ran it out of oil.
But this makes sense. I will look into that this weekend.

Graphite attracts moisture from humidity and creates a nice, sticky, gum like substance. If you have ever used it on one of your locks, do yourself a favor and wash it all out with either a contact cleaner or at least WD-40.

Lubricate with a very light coat of silicone or another lubricant after you clean out the locks.

This should be all that you need to do unless you have a mechanical issue such as a worn key or pins.

Your Saturn key is probably worn out causing the sticking. This is an extremely common issue with these cars. Have a locksmith decode your key and cut a new key by code or pull the ignition cylinder, get the code and have a locksmith cut you a new key.
