Key will not remove when locked.

Postby john1945 » Sat Jun 23, 2012 4:22 am

Greetings,When I lock a multi point door I raise the handle, and turn the key (inside or out) the door locks. However the key cannot be removed. Turn it back door unlocks, key extracts. The mechanism has 2rollers(mushrooms)and two hooks and clearly work, markings are GU and Mark2. I have removed the barrel, what I assume is a locking flap appears on locking. Have tried another key. Clearly can lock the door by leaving inside key in but have leave house by other exit. Any ideas, thanks John

Sounds like the cylinder is not turning all the way back to the neutral position when the door is locked allowing you to remove the key.

Post a close up pic of the cylinder with no key and another with the door locked and key stuck.

Then we can decide exactly what's wrong or at least give it a go.

90% certain the cause is a euro cylinder with the cam in the wrong position, usually caused by using an excessively worn key, or one which has had the tip cut too short by an incompetent key cutter. If the key is too short it can turn 180 degrees before engaging the cam, which results in the key only being removable in the unlocked position.

try activating the lock mechanism to the locked position when the door is open, before inserting the cylinder. Often this is simply an alignment issue. Many installers forget to read the instructions (i am not saying you havent).
