Light efficent training lock (specialized request)

Postby MarkMcGrath » Thu Jul 05, 2012 1:57 am

Ok so I travel a great deal right now, and really need start practicing my single picking in detail. I did a search and I have found several practice locks etc. I also have been told see through and cut away locks don't stand up to abuse or give you the feel you are truely looking for, so I guess I am not looking for them specifically. This question is two fold.

1. Which setup will give me the most range to grow in terms of modifying the lock from adding additional pins, to possibly spoon and serration pins?

2. Which is the easiest to work with and change out in a barracks style almost no tools setup?

I have very limited space (currently the top of a bunk bed and whatever free space at the USO I can get) and wish to travel with the least amount of locks. Consider price isn't a huge issue on this purchase. Also lastly this should be really a third question. Do you know if said company organization can send to APO addresses?

Thanks for the help. More dumb questions to come.

mark - check out learnlockpicking.com - they have a practice cylinder where the tops of individual pin chambers unscrew, make pin changes easy - you don't have to carry tweezers or following tools. i don't know if they ship to APO addresses, check them out. also, i'm sure there are other members of this forum that have been on active duty that can give you tips on how and where to practice, as well as suggestions on getting practice locks. good luck!

Mark,
Thanks for your service! I was on the FPO side of the house. As stated above, a practice lock with a grub screw installed above each pin stack would be the ideal way to go. You could load just one, or all chambers with what ever you want to throw in there. If you can't pick it open, just empty the chambers, and reload them differently for another challenge. Good luck!

Former Service, but I am doing the civilian side because consistent deployments ran out. Thanks for the input, I searched around and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing any note worthy items, new or old.
