Yahuan disc detainer lock and self coded key

Note to moderator: I think this post doesn´t go advanced because this lock is not high security but if considered so feel free to remove it from here to advanced section.

I was driving my car and saw this shiny padlock on the ground. Stopped and picked it up (easiest picking ever) and studied it - disc detainer lock, this is way too difficult - so I just didn´t even try to open. Until some evening when bored I picked it with doublesided pick and after 20 seconds it was open! I was a bit confused but anyway I got it open. Bonus is that when it was open I could decode disc postitions!

This chinese lock has 7 discs and cuts are made in 20 degree intervals. Each disc is 2mm thick. So I filed this key from oak, it doesn´t show well in the picture but there are 3 different cuts in this key. I will make a proper key from steel later. But no hurry as this wooden key works well. Well, I´m a carpenter





There is a hologram saying ISO 9001 top security. What does it require from manufacturer to stamp that in this like piece of crap?

The ISO 9000 is a certification for the quality of the manufacturing process. It has nothing to do with how secure the lock is.Nice job with the picking.

Nice job on the key! There wouldn't be much point in making one out of steel, these things turn with no resistance whatsoever so I can't really see the wooden key wearing down. I'd imagine that's a nice quality hard wood you used, so carpent yourself a cool handle for it and use that. Seriously, that'd be cool as hell

As for picking, I've seen these jiggled open the way you did it before but it's not exactly the most reliable (or repeatable) method around. Very few of them will actually open like that so you either got lucky or have some kind of magic touch. Either way, congrats

I guess I got lucky with that opening. And being also helped with easy bitting of the key.

It would be nice to use this lock some place and in front of a group of people say - "No, I don´t have a key but I just carve one from some wooden stick..."
