Reverse Codimg this

Postby unclejoe78 » Thu Jul 19, 2012 8:08 am

I am playing around picking and impressioning a mailbox lock with NA 14 blanks. Interestingly enough the number written on the back of the lock is 25. However the direct coding is printed on the key and can be confirmed by caliper measurement of 34413 which is a 5 pin.

When I input the possible blind code of 25 into my instacode software using the NA14 key blank it states that there are no direct bitings that match a 5 pin with that code and that there is only a 4 pin option which of course isn't the correct biting for the lock.

Is it possible to ascertain the possible blind code in instacode or elsewhere from the direct code I listed above?

The only other info I have is that the letters H and G are also printed on the ok but in another area which only refers to the manufacturer and not the coding in my opinion.

I don't think that will be the code. Not enough digits.

@unclejoe78:

By "written on the back of the lock" do you mean with marker or pencil ?

Sounds more like the end user wrote that on after taking a key and either putting it on Tag #25 or the lock was installed on mailbox 25...

Interesting Feedback. Yea it might mean the lock number. I thought these were brand new though since I got it in a sealed bag. Here are some pictures. I had a typo btw. The possible blind code on the back of the lock is 29 and not 25 I'm curious what the 29 means if it isn't a code and not referring to a box.

Cams are interchangeable and a dime a dozen, I imagine the number relates more to which cam it is than anything about the lock itself or the bitting.

MBI is correct. Logically a company wouldn't put the code on a removable part, it would be on the cylinder if anywhere. The common codes for those locks that I run across have 4 digits followed by PO.

Ya that makes sense. Are there any tricks or easy methods to remove the cylinder from this kind of lock? I've seen codes on the back of mailbox locks before.do you usually find them on the cylinders?

Pry up the cap covering the last pin chamber. Remove the solid pin, ship cylinder and remove. Assemble in reverse order making sure to stake the cap in place.
