Lockpickshop.com Reviews

Hi all!

Last week I ordered an MPXS-20 set from LPS.

They said that it could take 5-8 days to deliver (I'm in Australia)...

on the afternoon of the 4th business day - my package was on the front doorstep!

Awesome!

one very small gripe about the set itself: there are two small half dimond picks, one with a handle and one without - same for the short rake and the snake.

I could have used a large dimond or a dimond with different angles, but other than that, the set is excelent!

LPS's e-mail response to one question I had was lightning fast (within 20 mins or so).

Good on you LPS!

Just in case you weren't aware: I've used the large diamond and I find it basically useless. It's too big. Also, they don't make a diamond at different angles.

(Personally I'd want some in different thicknesses, but that's just me).

Glad you like it, and that's pretty amazing service.

I ordered from lockpickshop.com late last year, and received my order in a very timely fashion along with no less than 4 confirmation emails telling me when my order had been received, when it was shipped, answered a couple of my questions, and then asking if I had received my order.

I appreciated the prompt attention from the sales staff there. You can thank "Red" as he's the owner and a member of LP101. PM him and let him know what you think. I'm sure he'll appreciate it. It's because of the service and fair pricing that I actually endorse that company as a legitimate place to buy from. They are a rare bird on the 'net.

Postby jabial » Wed Feb 18, 2004 11:55 pm

Anybody in France (or in another western-Europe country) ordered anything from them? What's the shipping fare? How much time didi it take to get to you?

Well, the delivery is not so expensive, and at the current price of the dollar, it is less expensive to me to order from the US... The main issue is delivery time.

just to add my review as well,

i live in norway, and ordered a c2010 slimline 22 piece set from lockpickshop.com on sunday, february 29th. immediately placing the order i received two emails, one 'thank you for your order' email and one order receipt. the next day, monday, i received a third email saying it had been shipped.

and today, thursday the 4th, i'm sitting here with the set in my hand. i'm very happy with the speed of the shipment, it easily rivals even domestic shipping here. :)

the total cost came to $62.95, of which $13.50 was shipping (usps' global priority mail, tracking not available). i used the lp101 coupon for a 10% discount. they also did me a nice favor by labeling the shipment as a 'gift', so i could avoid local taxes and duties. brilliant service. the package itself consisted of a global priority flat-rate cardboard envelope, containing a smaller padded jiffy envelope, with a receipt and the lockpick-set itself in a small plastic bag.

i even got a tension wrench which isn't in the picture, which was nice, seeing as the set is described as having seven different tension tools, but the picture, http://www.southord.com/images/fullsize/C-2010.jpg, only shows six.

the additional wrench looks like this one, http://imagescommerce.bcentral.com/merchantfiles/4311405/HPCTR-22TenWrench.jpg, (only without the twist),
which is handy for american style doorknob-embedded locks, i guess.

i'm really happy with the whole process, and would recommed lps to international customers in a heartbeat.

i ordered from them last week actually, and even though the USPS misrouted my package  it was still here in 4-5 days.

not a problem with them at all.

also, i concur with cityspider, large diamond is pretty much useless. (at least, i've never found much use for it... nothing that a small diamond and short hook can't more then handle). and different thicknesses would be nice... i tend to bend my picks :(

The HPC computer pick set, includes a HUGE half diamond. But, bent downward at an angle. Seemed completely useless when I first started to play with the picks, but ended up being a serviciable rake for Kwiksets and such. Maby you can try the large diamonds as rakes?

Just thought I'd add this - having now got a "propper" pick set, I now realise that a large dimond would be at least redundant and at worst useless. so far my large hook has been useless to me - I'm probably going to file it down.

an idea though - as mentioned before - what about a set that combines thicknesses of picks. I'm having trouble with a warded padlock at the moment and could use a thinner small dimond...

perhaps we could put a submission to Lockpickshop or southord or something with the "LP101 ULTIMATE PICKSET"(tm)

any ideas?

Sounds great to me. You might want to take a look at the Brockhage/Rogan set, if you haven't already.

A question: if it's a warded padlock, how come you're using a small diamond (ie, a lockpick for pin/tumbler and wafer locks)? Or do you mean a lock with a heavily warded keyway?

We need more jargon in this here hobby.

uh.. yep, that's what I meant

ok, a while ago I wanted to know what a "warded padlock" was so I searched on "warded" and thought I found that "warded keyway" was the answer.

looks like more searching for me....

perhaps marso will pipe up? :P

:D

these are warded padlocks: http://www.masterlock.com/cgi-bin/class ... =11&Go.y=4

instead of pins, it just pushes levers that open the lock basically... the wards in the keyway prevent the wrong key from opening the lock, but with a set of warded lock picks (look at the picture on the Links button at the top of this page, those are warded lock picks), you can open warded locks extremely easily... they'll contain 1 or 2 "levers" so to speak that you gotta push with the warded lockpicks.

i don't know a whole lot about them, but that's a warded lock in a nutshell. pay special attention to the key, and to the warded picks at the top of the page, and you should understand it.
