Staple Gun or Pick Gun?

Postby ad0beaddict » Wed Sep 06, 2006 12:07 am

The otherday while sitting at my table picking a padlock i noticed there was a handheld staple gun like the one in this picture Image
I started playing with it and soon relized that it could be made in to a pick gun. I took it apart basicaly. My dad got pissed off at me so i had to put it back together...I'm assuming theese are quite expensive so if can find one hanging around the house i know how i'm going to do it. When you squeeze the trigger a little metal peice jetting out the front of the gun this could be the base for the pick it's just a little idea tell me what you think. plz ask questions if you dont understand.

I never considered a staple gun...it may be a bit bulky for the purpose...but I'll have the check out the one that I have lying around here.

They aren't too expensive...but they can get up in price. I think the cheap ones go for around 15 bucks, and go up to around (at least the most I've seen) is like $60 dollars.

I would say there is far to much force in a staple gun for it to work and not damage the lock.

Some have a screw to adjust spring force, but then I think you would still struggle to hold the gun still. You could get a pick gun for less than some staple guns BTW.

Staple guns can be found cheap but trust me someone i know has done this recently, it was far to powerful even when measures were taken to calm it down and after a short while the spring broke,

Great idea and been mentioned before but its a no goer im afraid,

or follow shrubs awesome post on the bosch screwdriver mod. Less money, less bulky, and proven to work.
I hear what you are saying.....that doesn't mean I agree with you....Just that I am nodding my head to placate you and silence your futile attempts to win the argument.

angles

Postby raimundo » Fri Mar 09, 2007 11:58 pm

the appropriate angle for holding a staple gun up to a lock would be just the way you would hold it if you were going to put in a staple, the fingerlever cocks a spring, and trips it to fire a hammer in the direction of the staples points, this is kinetic energy going perpendicular to where you want it for a pickerpecker, but the hammer strikes so hard that you can mount a probe on the front outside of the staple gun and by drilling a hole in the clamshell case of the stapler, you can see that hammer go by, and insert a piece of the end of the probe so that as the hammer comes by, it strikes this end of the probe at a right angle to the direction of the hammer, as the probe end is cammed to an angle to take the strike from the hammer. (Hope someone is able to see the idea clearly, in spite of my explanation) :? The concept is to have a probe orientated in the same direction as a staple is aimed and yet struck by the hammer in a way to make it bump perpendicular to the directionof the hammer, not so hard to do. and the way the stapler is held over the lock, to position it for the strike is more natural, the stapler could also have a bridge foot to place over protruding cylinders. three rubber points to steady the stapler in place while using it
