I'm located in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia in Newport News. If any one is nearby (Norfolk, etc..), I'd enjoy a meetup.

I'm in the eastern panhandle of WV, just 20 miles from VA & MD. I'm about an hour from Washington or Baltimore. If anybody's starting up a local club and is interested in including a beginner as a member, I'd be up for it...

Okay, I'm seriously thinking about having an event. It wouldn't be an actual locksport event, since there isn't one here yet, but it would hopefully be a precursor to Locksport. Are there a lot of people interested in the DC area? I'm thinking of setting it up in Alexandria since picks aren't legal to carry in DC. PM me if you're interested.
Also Roger, you might want to read over the site rules http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?t=715. Pay special attention to rule 1.

I misread the rule- I thought it meant you couldn't use an excerpt from an outside email, not that you couldn't list an email address. Sorry about that!

Are you talking just NE of DC in Maryland?

Yeah, seems like a good midway point - and I expect some University of Maryland students are pickers. If the mass of people are in VA I suppose we MD pickers could travel a little further, though.

We'll do it in either College Park or Alexandria, depends on where the largest mass of pickers are from. So far, you're the only one to show interest. No PMs as of yet. I wasn't expecting a huge group, but at least five people would be nice.

Okay, that's three people interested. Hopefully this will be an "if you build it, they will come" situation, and we'll get more. We'll do it February 18th at 5PM in College Park, MD. That's a Sunday. I don't know exactly where we're gonna do it in College Park, give me a week to figure it out. I can move the date back a week if the 18th isn't good for anyone, but not forward. This isn't a Locksport event, but hopefully will lead to the creation of such in the future. I imagine this "meeting" will last a couple of hours with a lot of getting to know each other and some picking going down. PM me with quesitons and/or suggestions.

DEFCON takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Riviera Hotel/spam. If you get in on the room reservation block, it's $95/night. Entry fee for the convention is $100, and last time I checked plane tickets from Dulles they were anywhere from $250 to $350 roundtrip. You're looking at about $700 for room/board/entry. There's more information at DEFCON's website, including access to their RSS feed; and there's a sticky about it in the General Chatter page on this site.
