Ample parking (free), 2 blocks from the metro, but no food court. There is a nice Salvadoran chicken joint across the street.
I'm fine with UMD as well, just want to put it on the table.
Well, we've been doing it at UMD because the "residential distribution" favors Maryland residents. The "hold it a college" model of setting up L.I chapters seems to be working down in Texas, and hopefully it can work for us too.

ROFL, I'd find a red carpet to roll out! Seriously, if we get at least three of the same people to attend two meetings in a row, we'll have L.I paperwork to fill out at the third.

Just a confirmation to all in the DC Metro area, we are having a locksport meeting (not L.I, not yet) at 4PM EDT on Sunday 25 MAR at the University of Maryland Stamp building (directions in the thread). We'll be there for about two hours picking locks and doing other locksport related things. Hope to see you there!

Our March meeting went well. I'm still impressed with how great a venue the University of Maryland is turning out to be. Gordon Airporte, a friend of his, and I were present. We briefed his friend on the existance of bumping and shared thoughts of how to prevent it. We also discussed security pins and how to defeat them. Gordon Airporte had a wicked hard American padlock that I attempted to open, and he got to learn the secret of the Everest. It'd still be nice to see more people there. We will schedule another meeting later this month (April 22?)

It occurred to me that if we set up in the Computer Science building we'd be much more likely to get interested passers-by - or maybe the engineering building.
I don't know if these buildings have any appropriate common areas, and I'm not sure if that's how we want to build interest - but it's an idea.

I think we can do it if we get firm commitments from some other people to be there. mfshantz is a great guy, but we need some new blood because just the two of us doesn't make much of a club.
Let us know what days/times are good for y'all.

I haven't been to one of these meetings yet. I've missed the last two due to vacations. I'm free Monday, Thursday and most Friday evenings (except 2nd friday of each month). I'm busy this saturday and the weekend of the 27th-29th. Other than that I'm free. If no one picks a date I'll pick a date and try to reserve a room at my local library.
I'd like to learn impressioning as well. Has anyone any experience with it? I recently purchased a book which explains how to do it. But I have not tried it yet.
I have a fairly decent collection of stuff I can show off if anyone is interested. I've got picks, rakes, tension wrenchs/dials, electric lockpick, shims, bump keys, assortment of locks, visible locks.
Recently a friend of mine forgot the combination to his lock. I used a shim to open it, then I determined the combination through the use of an otoscope. If anyone finds this interesting I can demo how I did it.
I've got a decent collection of literature I can let people flip through.
I've got an S&G combination lock mounted on a piece of wood. If anyone has been trying to understand manipulation theory I can show the theory behind it.
I keep thinking of building an autosafecracker. If any engineers want to help with it I can farm out subtasks. I have degrees in computer science and electrical engineering. Any machininsts out there want to help?
I've got some other ideas that can be tackled as a group as well.

I hate to post on threads that are dead however, I have been looking around and haven't found very many people out here in the VA/DC area that are into the sport.
I would like to see we have a group that is meeting in a somewhat regular fashion. If not I would like to get a feel for how many people would be interested in getting together. I have a group of 5 friends that I know for sure are interested. I can get about 5 more depending on schedules.
Take care.
