Safeventures Curtain Pick & Lock ID

Postby justinthomas » Thu Jun 14, 2007 1:08 am

Hi guys/girls..

I have a safeventures curtain pick. I was told its a 5 guage pick?
I was also advised that the OLD chubb 3g114 could be picked with the SV curtain pick?

However, the stump on the pick that turns the curtain is too big and won't fit in the keyway?

Also, has anyone got the ID details & Pics for the ERA Endurance and the OLD Non BS Securefast 5 lever???

Cheers

sadly the safe ventures curtain pick cannot pick the chubb 3G114 old or new, wasnt designed to do this and cannot get under the low levers without serious modification, so not worth filing pick to fit.
It will however pick the chubb 3U114 as long as the lock doesnt have a No 6 or 7 lever in it.
It will only pick an era without the lowest levers in and wont do most current bs locks.
It will however pick the union security, old yellow legge and avocet locks as well as union 2134 , chubb 3U114 and new yale 560 locks as long as lowest 2 levers are not present.
if sold to you as picking the 3G114 etc, then ask for your money back as it wont, it is however a good pick for what it was designed to open.

as for id, the old securefast were found in blue , red , grey and mauve, the id point is of course that the curtain turns a full 360, except in really old models which have no curtain and are mauve with wicked warding.
The endurance looks same as the old red invincible , just smaller keyway.

Hi Lockey,

Thanks so much for the reply.

I wasn't told it could, but I have an ID manual that says the 3g114 old can be picked with a 5g curtain pick.

Never mind.

It's sometimes hard to get my head round what pick to get for what.
I've been told that the union plasticine kit does some yale, chubb & union..?

Anyway, thanks so much for the info I really appreciate your kindness.

Regards

a 5g pick does pick the old chubb 3G114 lock, but not the safeventures 5g pick, the cb 5g pick and the mark francis 5g pick will do the chubb 3G114.

the union plastercine kit will not do some chubbs and some yales, the union 2134 plastercine kit will pick the union 2134, the yale 560 and the chubb 3U114, as if you look at the 3 locks very carefully , they are all exactly the same lock in every way and detail except for colour.
though you may break you pick if you try to open the old chubb 3U114 as it has a different curtain preventing the make up key from turning properly.

ah ok, thank you for the info!

Just a query, do you think it's worth filing down my RB 2 in 1 pick as it doesn't seem to fit most keyways?

Cheers

The RB 2 in 1 pick is perfectly sized for the union 3 lever keyway, i carry over 50 2 in 1 picks pre filed to size for various domestic and safe keyways.

The 2 in 1 picks come in 2 sizes 5g and 7g, for domestic locks you shouldnt need more than 4 ( 2 of each).
what lock are you trying to fit it into? and what gauge pick did you buy?

try perfecting the use of wire on basic lever locks, as essential for those curved keyways that the 2 in 1 pick cannot fit in, and cheaper than a range of pre filed 2 in 1 picks.

never cut to size, always file.

I bought a 6g.

I can't remember what locks I tried with it, I'll see if I can get a hold of the models.

Yeah I'm getting ok with the wires now..

I bought the pick from Keyprint but they only advertise a 6g so thought that was the only option?

Yeah, well I have one and it would not pick your nose, regardless of what type it is !!!

I did a post ( it's in the advance section) about it, I did mod it some, and will mod it some more.

For starters, remove the stump and replace it with a smaller one, that will resolve that problem. It's only held on by a grub screw, and I found a drill bit that fits the hole perfectly, that's one problem down!

Second one is the wire, I cut a notch in the tool to allow the wire to be lifted while in use, this does give some ability to get below the low lever, but not really enough.
The tip of the wire is too heavy ( IHMO ), also the tool gets in the way to an extent, some filing of the tool end would sort that, and I intend to make some replacement wires.

It's a pitty, it's a really well made tool, and looks awesome the finish is great. But it's use is limited.
However with some mods you will be able to increase it's potential usage.

yes appologies, i meant 6g and 7g , not 5g.

the 7 g should fit tighter keways such as willenhall.

for basic 3 and 5 lever with no curtain, use the 2 in 1 but never forget the humble wires.

Hi Lockey,

With regards to the Chris Belcher pick and the 3G114, will that pick the old & new and the BS with 20mm throw?

I'm looking to purchase a pick for the 114's, I'm considering the Safeventures make up key set, the Turner make up key set or either the CB or the Mark Francis 5G Curtain pick.

What would you advise to get that'll cover me for most models of the 114.

Cheers mate

If you come across a fair share of 114's then your best option is a P+C,
