(UL) Locks?

Postby rpctk » Tue Sep 30, 2003 7:21 am

This sounds bad, but anyhow I was checking out some locks on vending machines today, and several of them had no markings other than (UL). What does this signify? The locks appeared to be biaxial, and I couldnt tell if they used pins, cylinders, or wafers. Does anyone have any information on these?

UL stands for Underwriters Laboratory. They're the guys who do consumer reports. UL listed locks have different catagories, but the most basic requires the lock to withstand picking for 6 minutes. Theres more info on it that I'll post later.

The UL designation means also that the latching mechanism meets certain requirements for withstanding physical attacks, heat, cold, and
quality of components as well as an expected life-span.
