abus lockpicking

I just buy a new 55/50 abus lock this afternoon. I cant pick it , I dont know why? What kind if pick I need to use ? And how I pick this lock.

If you are new to lockpicking the Abus lock is way to far above your skills. You will need to do alot of reading, practice alot on lesser locks to advance your skill, and patience. Get some lower quality locks to build your skills and learn about picking by reading ths site. Also, don't give up on a lock after one day. Most of us here have locks we have had for months that we have not been able to pick yet, but we don't give up. Remember, there is no "can't" in lockpicking. Only "haven't picked it yet"

Just keep trying with different tools and see wich one works the best on your abus lock... Maybe it will take you more time than other lock, but no on said it would be be easy

Abus locks are difficult to pick. They have 5 spool pins. Once you get a nack for picking security pins this lock will be no problem. I found that an off set half diamond pick works best on this type of lock. Keep going back to it and you will get it.

Abus 83/45 is our main padlock sold in our shop, but we deal with alot of other abus, and very rarely do we come across one that has security pins in....

nzleagle - I find almost all 83/45s in Australia also do not have security pins in them.

I think this is because they are an interchangable core lock - a lot of the cores that are installed in them (especially the ones on common local profiles, like LW4) for Australian/NZ market seem to never contain security pins.

I strongly suspect that these cylinders (eg those with LW4 profile) are not made by Abus at all, but they are made for the Aussie/NZ market in our commonest profiles.

If you pick up a smaller, cheap brass Abus padlock(not repinnable, so definately pinned by Abus themselves), you will find it contains security pins almost invariably. The Abus Diskus series also have security pins.

All the Abus cylinders for doors that I have encountered in Australia have contained security pins - it seems to only be the changable core padlocks that lack them here in Australia, and in NZ too it seems. This is what makes me wonder if Abus actually made the cores in these locks, or just the padlock housing itself.

yeah abus's are really easy to pick, both with hand picks and especially with the pick gun.

worst case, your from the northern hemisphere, where abus pins are spools, you can still pick it with very light tension and very light picking, avoid all frustration, and hold it lightly in your hand. frustration and too much force come from an attitude in your mind that you insist and demand that the lock open, this will make the lock put up a fight and it will make your head hurt, your fingers too, and you'll bend picks, all bent picks come from just this situation.
Hold the lock lightly in your hand and experiment in how you could best hold the lock for picking, definately try several holds, and dont get into using the thumb for the tension finger, just for convenience, find the good hold. then pick like your not trying to get some where, pick like you are where you want to be. dont think of opening the lock, think of light intemittent tension while lightly polling the pins to see who wants to come along, tapping them on the bottom, as you pass the single pick under them. (single pick meaning halfdiamond, the pick made to pass easily under the pins and lift them individually.

Take deep breaths and think about the breathing, not the lockpicking. find the calm at the center of your mind.

Use hook and close your eyes. Don´t use force to get pin in position.
Less tension is better.

its funny... i can only do half of my abus locks. for example my diskus, i got it home, and out of the package, 95 seconds later it was open. my brady (abus) no 41 40mm, i can't pick to save my life.

guess its time to go back to being at one with my zen or somethign like that. going to go give it a shot now.
