Just a query though on one of them. I'm familiar with all of those (in theory) except for pick 01. How would you use that particular one, or what for?

It's a long rake. Personally, I hate them as they have never done anything for me. They look cool, though.

Ah road apples, sorry about double-posting. No edit function enabled it seems. Anyway, I dunno if I mentioned in my first post or not, but a friend is planning on buying with me. He was originally thinking of an electronic pick because he's a lazy road apples like that, or something. Anyway, he was wondering what you guys thought of them?

Electropicks will open some of the locks all of the time. They still require skill to use and are noisy, in addition to being absurdly expensive. Best to get the manual picks - they're not THAT hard to use, I promise.

Meh... Club540 is good to host videos and share, but the tutorials on Tricks Tutorials are much better... the Aerial one had me in tears. :lol:

I like Club540 since you can find some really god stuff on it - the "Dream on" sampler is the single most awe-inspiring and inspiration video I have yet to see.

Thick a really lound vibrating noise, and the sound of metal hitting metal at high speed. It damages the lock.
The manual pick guns need practice, and you can snap away till your fingers get crippled and the lock will stay shut if you don't know what you're doing.

Try and convince your friend to buy one of the small sets of manual picks and try those.

Agreed without hesitation. But someone posted it on TT anyway, so I lose nothing by not being a member of Club540. =P

complete newbie here. I have read the whole thread and I have a very simple question. I live in the US so by default I should choose the wider pick sets, but I have read that the slim picks also work with US locks so why not recommend the slim picks for everyone then? That way you are covered for anything that comes your way. Am I right?
I ahve also read that some ppl prefer slim picks in case they need more space for the picks. Am I completely off the mark here?

Slim picks will work on both locks with wide and narrow keyways however, they are easier to bend. Most people who are new to this hobby put much more tension on a lock than they should and thus bend slimline picks like crazy but the US picks are much more resilient. Hope that answers your question.

So I decided to buy picks instead of making them myself after reading some threads. Right now I think what I want to get is a C Rake, Small half Diamond, and short hook. Now from my understanding I should just get the slimlines if I'm not going to get both. Unfortunately the slimlines don't have a description, and all the pictures are so small I can't figure out which ones are which. So can anyone help me out and tell me which numbers they are? I also decided to get a regular short hook with the metal handle because from my understanding thats the most used pick and I figured I should check out the handles and regular size so that I know if I want those next time. Am I correct in thinking that the short hook is the most used pick?

I also am getting two tension wrenches the TW-02 and TW-18 unless I find some other tension wrench that I should get

No one mentioned the bogota pick set. smaller and lighter than any jacknife set, its an effective and small pick set. The big dogs who posted in this thread already know all about them, but they are afraid that a newbie getting hold of them will cause him to lose interest in all the other picks. :lol:
