Hi im new to this ,i used to pick locks when i was a kid so havent used anything more complicated than a hair pin for years till i bought a five piece throwaway pick set recently and im hooked again!!!.I would be interested in becoming a member to get advice and help during a meet up. im in tynemouth/newcastle upon tyne area if theres anyone local.

i definately think this would be a good idea in the uk, theres nothing like the feeling of satisfaction when you single pick a lock open and i for one would like to meet others who share that,i currently only have a couple of padlocks and a euro cylinder to go at,its fun but boring till i get some more.

where might be the best place to find one of those, have you any pics of one and am i gonna want to throw it in the sea after not being able to pick it? sorry for asking so many questions but would you recommend a pick or three for it?, a hammer and chisel maybe?

out of the 4 or 5 i have only the one thats master keyed will open for me. and i hate admitting that. as i was so pleased I had opened one until I found out its master keyed.

U can pick them up on ebay. Kaba Grundman or Kaba GeGe. same lock. what are u picking now and ill give you an idea of what to go after next?

just a couple of sterlings,one a disc the other normal padlock style,no model numbers visible and a few diy shop specials,i really would like a list or top ten locks to try,im just starting using proper picks but seem to have a good idea what im doing to open them, only problem is there not really difficult enough to make me mad yet sorry forgot to mention all the locks are pin tumblers as i havent got ward picks yet.

dont bother with warded its as easy a it looks and u can make the picks from old keys.

Get some euro profile cylinders
E*S (euro spec) are great to start on
Sterling fall open in your hand
ISEO are also a great starting point.

Thanks very much,your right about the sterlings.is there somewhere to get second hand euros from as im having a hard job where i live, all my locks have been bought brand new and its costing me valuable pick money!! plus the diy shops round here are getting suspicious of me when im buying locks,i told one guy they were for practice and he thought i meant practising breaking in!!! got some strange looks when i said it was a hobby too.

search for "High security padlock" on ebay and it drops u in to the "locks" search then customize your search from there

Thats the lock search showing all locks on ebay.co.uk atm. simply select "Used" under condition for second hand locks. ive ended up paying as little as 9p per lock plus postage before.

Ebay.com do, and they tend to have a greater selection than Ebay.co.uk anyway. Though I do find the site harder to use.

But unfortunately that trick doesn't work on ebay.com i think it works on the Canadian version though.
