I'm sure someone is working on plans behind the scenes, I just started this to see who all is planning on going from this forum.

If someone can get me a cheap room (I'm willing to sleep on the floor), I can probably carpool there with the locals. I've always been too broke or couldn't get time off work for DEFCON, but this year might happen.

I've got more or less the same issue.. not too sure if I can get the time off from work.. but if I do, I would only need to rent some floor space for the military cot..

Just don't feel like reserving a whole room if I cannot attend. (and yes, if someone wants to offer some floor space, I will gladly pay for it)

And I may even teach some interesting bypass methods to the other room tenants..

I'm also planning on driving from Toronto, ON, Canada.. (again if I do get the time off work) if your on the way, I may be able to provide transportation for a small fee.

I'm going to be there as well. I'm one of the Senior Goons(Staff) so I never miss it.

I'll try.. I say that every year. If anyone has floor space you got yourself a newbie set.. and I'll teach you how to open cool locks.. really cool locks haha.

I wish it was on the east coast

Speaking of hope and defcon, does anybody here prefer one over the other?

I'm seriously planning on going. Driving from Nebraska, if you're on my way, I'll pick you up and I'll split the cost of a room (or pay for it all for something in trade) if needed.

This will be my first and I'm definitely excited as I'll finally get to put faces to most of the names that I'm constantly seeing here. Plus I might strut my American 5200 padlock skillz, who knows.

HOPE is in New York and is a lil smaller and less crazy. Defcon is in Las Vegas and is more drunk and more little things/competitions going on. They are both primarily hacker/computer security conventions.

This year we have some great events planned for both Defcon and HOPE. You won't be disappointed either way. If you are strapped for cash, then Las Vegas is the place to go. Airfare and accommodations are generally less expensive.

I like HOPE better personally because its smaller and not as crazy, although if you are not familiar with the city it can be very stressful. I also liked HOPE better because you couldn't smoke inside the hotel (although I think they recently changed the policy at Defcon so you couldn't smoke inside anymore either).

HOPE is 2600, so the theme is always political in nature, and Emanuel always does a really awesome social engineering attack live in front of everyone. Its pretty much the coolest thing you have ever seen. Also they always get relevant celebrities to give keynote speeches (Kevin Mitnick, Wozniak, The Mentor). You don't see to much of that at Defcon.

Anyways, see you guys at HOPE/Defcon!
