I dunno, if it didn't need the VS 2005 redistributable it'd be easier, but it uses SxS to grab specific DLL versions (presumably so developers can be lazy and not patch for newer than 95/NT? :P); not sure how WINE handles SxS.

I know this is an old thread but I recently ran into a very similar problem with running LSS+ and a couple other pieces of software on Linux and didn't want to create a new thread.
After trying with Wine and have not much luck, ended up creating a virtual machine and putting all of the training / reference material that I have on that. One great benefit that I found is that it's extremely portable, I can transport it on an external HD and then run it on a Windows/Linux/Mac boxes without any problems. I used VMware I'm not promoting it, I've used Virtualbox and KVM in the past and like them both. I'd stick with Virtualbox/VMware/Parallels the ones that are cross platform.

This worked great for me, wondering if anyone else has tried this and what their results were.

I am a big proponent of VMware. It's one of the most useful pieces of software I have. Good call.

Thanks, me too. I put it on a dedicated server so I can access it from anywhere at a decent speed. If I really want to I can even download it and put it on whatever machine I have.

I know some of the discussion of getting LSS gov. from this place or that place might be a bit old but just keep in mind that wherever you buy it from you have to get your activation done through security.org. Lockpicks.com might just sell you the government edition but they would be laughing all the way to the bank unless you can prove to Marc (security.org) that you have clearance. Otherwise all that extra stuff you paid for will not be activated.

Not saying this to be a jerk, I just don't want someone to waste their money buying the government version thinking they just pulled the wool over everyones eyes only to find out otherwise when activating.

My copy of LSS arrived yesterday, the books that is, I didn't peel ten out of te shrink wrap yet as I'm ill. But man oh man did I get a lot of book/s for my dollar, it's like the encyclodpedia britannica of locks.

I will write a review in the future.
