First Pick A Success?

My first picking experiment was picking a crappy little metal lock box with a 3-pin tumbler lock. I did it in about 25 seconds SPPing with a pair of tweezers and a hairpin.

I was just thinking, too... Who remembers that feeling when they first felt that lock turn all the way free? I sure do, heh. After that I picked my girlfriend's front door Yale lock with the same tools... She was shocked to see me that day.

I just got my picks today. I'd bought a kwikset double keyed deadbolt to start on.

First, I removed all but one pin and was using a thin tweezers to feel the resistance of the spring. I accidentally "picked" the lock within a few seconds. Doesn't really count, since a single pin barely counts as a lock.

Then, when my picks came, I added a second pin. Tried that, and had it open within 10 seconds this morning. I'm at work right now, but when I get home, I'll add a third, and so on.

Loving this so far. Very zen-like.

So, I figured I'd add to my prior post.

I got home from work and running errands, and added a third pin. Within a few minutes, I added a fourth, then switched over to the untouched 5-pin kwikset cylinder. I got into a great zen moment, and had it open within 30 seconds. I can now reliably open it in less than 20 seconds.

So from first pin to first 5-pin lock in less than 24 hours. I'm very happy with that. Now it's time to pick up a Schlage lock, as I've heard they're a slightly bigger challenge. Definitely not ready for security pins yet, but I am certainly having fun.

Now to get a locksport chapter going in my area.

about 2 minutes on a 4 pin master padlock, not managed to do a cylinder lock yet, but getting my practice board soon so that should help... Cant stop thou, i love it!

About 20-30 seconds on a master #3, and a little quicker on a 2 pin practice cylinder I bought from lockpickshop (I suspect the master #3 had a little bit of luck involved but we shall see). I just received my tools today, so I'm pretty happy. Tried the kryptonite and master 911 I have just for the heck of it. Obviously I did not even come close, but I was able to feel the false set due to the spool pins.

I don't have any real picks yet, just using a homemade paperclip hook pick and tension wrench.
The first lock i picked was a really cheap 2-pin padlock which opened right after I put the paperclip in, so this wouldn't count as picking.

My picks today, picked my 3 pin practice cyclinder about a dozen times, first time took around 5 minutes, but down to a few seconds now (don't really time my self). Just got back from a hardware store, brought myself a 4 pin Master padlock and a cheap 6 pin Euro cylinder. I just love that feeling of success when you open your first lock. I'll amke dinner then set about the padlock.

Hello every one this is my 1st post , ive picked one or two locks nothing major,
It took me 20mins to pick my 1st lock , it was called an abus !..

Other than Shimming locks in school my first actual picking was a chunky master padlock(dont remember the number) went pretty swimmingly, great learning expierience.

it was a half diamond pick and it took about 1 and a half mins

once you do it once tho you realize its possible and decide to do it faster... then harder locks... then your a super picker yaaay!

for those of you lookin for your first pick just keep at it cause once you do it once your next time will be alot quicker(hopefully)

My first pick was a crappy chinese master knockoff. Did it with two paperclips and got hooked.

First lock I picked was the door into my house from the garage. Had 2 paperclips, and about 15 min in, it suddenly opened. So surprised I thought I'd broken it somehow.
