Thank you SO much for this exercise. I just got my first set of picks yesterday and was getting frustrated with 4 pin padlocks, so i looked at this site and found this. First thing this morning i went out and bought a 5 pin cylinder, took it apart, and started practicing. Taking it one pin at a time has helped me out so much. Without this exercise, there is a good chance that i would have gotten so frustrated with padlocks that my lockpicking experience would have been tainted for a long time to come. Thanks again

It's a shame that no noob will ever find the thread by themselves. They'll have to ask "What's the bext way to learn to pick? (Or should it be "wots tha best wey to lern to pik?") and then we'll have to direct them here anyway.

But, all in all, good guide Db.

No so I have found it and plan to do the exercises herein. I knew I was just "getting lucky on the locks I have been trying.
I think that by practicing these exercises I will, eventually, build skill.

Tryed this Exer... over a year ago, it help me in everything and it helped me also in fealing Im in the lock looking at the pins.

I just got my ultimate practice lock in the mail today and my pick set should be just a day or two behind. I printed this out and it will be the first thing I try . Thanks for the great guide.

Thanks to the OP, and any / all contributors.

Very simple excercise to expand upon, and whilst I didnt take out pins and work one pin at a time, I have used this to consistently pick a 3pin lock in under 5 seconds....after my 2nd day of picking....it provides the handy confidence boost needed to rise to the next challenge.

I'd really like to give this a try. I'm not really sure where to get a lock without the protective casing. Do you think my local hardware store would carry them? Or would I have to try some place with a larger selection?

I've tried to locate the binding pin in a fully-funtional lock, but I haven't had any success. Still a long way to go :p

Thank you very much! A relly good exercise. I'm going it, but with a full-complected padlocks (4-6 pins).
What locks are good for this exercise? And what locks are with a hight-security pins? Where to buy them?

Thank you much, blue! I found this easily, and I can tell you that the exercise will be the first thing I do when my picks show up on Tuesday! (Well, maybe the second thing, after I randomly sort them out a few times.)

Thanks for this db. As with a lot of others, I have opened many locks by shear luck.

Reading this tutorial of yours helped a lot. I will definately be trying this on several types of locks, and to keep in practice.
