You may be better off going to a local locksmith in your area. I don't know if there is any members from that exact location.

I looked at the members map a few days ago and there seemed to be some.Anywhere in Illinois would be ok.

You need to apply for a PERC card in IL. I am in St Louis and cannot cross the border to do work in IL but they can cross over here and steal my work.....sux!

I have a PERC card as I am licensed security card. All it takes to get a card is to have fingerprints and apply and pay a fee. There is no test. I am also licensed in St. Louis and St. Louis County, for which I had to pay. I see many vans from St. Louis which Locksmith and Lockout Service all over Metro- East so what's your point?

I' saying he has the right to work in Illinois if he gets the PERC csrd. I'm an Illinois resident and I have to buy one. I'll also have to pay a $500 application fee for a locksmith license that is non-refundable if you don't make your test by the way the test also costs $150. When he comes across like he's somehow getting screwed by not being able to work over here, He only has to pay the same fees and take the same test as everyone.

Yes. I can apply for a PERC card, but I am not interested in driving 45 minutes one-way to service Illinois residents at my advertised rates. Paying the ludicrous fees imposed by the state of Illinois seems pointless when there is no enforcement. If I did pay for licensing there, I would need to increase my fees to account for the licensing costs. The thing is though, if your product or service is not offered by a state licensed company in Illinois, you can operate there without any license, provided you are selling or installing your exclusive products.

I took a call recently from the East St Louis Sheriffs Department, wanting me to rekey all their Medeco locks on gun safes in all their vehicles.

I refused immediately because I am not licensed in Illinois (and I wasnt sure whether it was a ploy to lure me over) - I suggested them to use a licensed Illinois locksmith.

(apparently they had tried to, but the service and knowledge accumen was terrible)

I previously held the St Louis MO, security guard license too, because I was working in personal security services too. (until my locksmith business started getting too busy) I have since let it lapse.

Yes there are MO locksmiths that do cross the border and some of them are unlicensed, but when there is no enforcement, why should they pay for something that offers them no security. The scammers have been getting away with it. The consumer rarely asks for a license to be produced, why should there be one if all it is is a revenue generator for a broke government?
