Postby csthomas » Fri Mar 26, 2010 11:50 am

I'm trying to pick a 3 pin lever lock my school gave me to practice on... I suck. I have no clue how to do it. They said to put the tension wrench in the keyhole and turn it clockwise until it stops, well... it dosent stop, it keeps spinning and spinning. also once picked how do you remove the cover? any help appreciated.

The plug is just spinning when you apply tension? And you're sure it's pinned? If you have the proper tools, and know how, I would disassemble it and make sure there's top pins and springs in the bible. If this is a lock that other people in your class have messed around with, there's a good possibility that they may have blown the bible, and not replaced the top pins and springs.

That's all I can think of! Good luck! 8)

I'm sorry, I didn't answer your second question...

It depends on what kind of lock you're working on, but if you mean how do you remove the lever...you keep the plug turned to the unlock position and use a poke in the small hole on the outside of the lever. That will depress the retainer and you should be able to pull it off.

Good luck!

Also- depending on the style, it may have a loose cover at the start of the keyway, intended to spin if it is tampered with. With this, you need a longer tension wrench that will go past the cover and grip into the keyway.

Lever tumbler lock?

Is this a lever type lock using an old fashioned type key (skeleton type) or a lever entrance set with a standard pin tumbler lock?

If it is a lever tumbler lock, then you need to use the turning wrench to apply pressure to the bolt, while using a pick to lift the levers, otherwise you are simply lifting levers without any pressure on the bolt.

Nickle bet this is a warded lock. Seem to recall seeing this exact issue raised from time to time. Given the OP is NOT in the UK, but in the US, I'm less likely to think what they have is a lever lock.

Yes the OP said three pin, and lever lock, the combination of the two seems unlikely.
It's a good day when I learn something new.

On second thoughts here, it may be a lever handle for a cabinet. Instead of pin tumblers it is probably wafer/disc tumblers.

A pic would tell a thousand words.
