fix pin positions after picking?

Is there any reversible method to make the pins stay in the picked position after a lock is picked?

I have read about packing the keyway with string or dental floss. Are there any tricks when doing this?

Are there any other good methods?

Possibly a thin metal shim, if you have access to the back of the lock (and you probably should right).

Why if you want to rotate the plug more than once but only pick once the answer is already on the site.

A plug spinner will not work for this lock, if that's what you mean.

I need to be able to rotate the plug to an arbitrary position at an arbitrary speed.

If you want it freely rotating and reversible, you could just remove the pin stacks entirely (and put them back later).

I always wanted to design a keyblank that was hollowed out and shallow cut so that you could pump something through it to fill all areas of the keyway and then pull out as a working key once set.

Not sure anything exists, it may need some severe lubing too to stop the resin bonding too well the the innards

I suppose if you had a Sputnik tool you could pick a lock manually, insert Sputnik with the correct blank, and move the piano wire so it pushed each key pin against the housing wall, lock the piano wires in place or see where they are on the scale and make a key from that.
