When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Well just got my cheapo 7 pin tubular pick in today, the thing is junk. I would not advise anyone to buy one, mine has a crack running up the tip. The lock for the picks does not work well, you have to really crank it for it to barely hold. I figured i could start with this thing but now im just going to get a southord. If anybody wants to sell one pm me. Hope this is not supposed to be in the advanced forum, if it is i will accept a invite to it

I got the cheapo one from DX and it arrived fine for me. It was in what looks like a solid glasses (reading not drinking) holder and came with a decoder. I was actually quite surprised at the quality considering how much cheaper they are than the southord ones.

I actually recently got the same tool from DX. However I am having trouble using it it dosent look cracked or anything. Is this maybe because of poor quality?

no, thats because of the tension you have set on the fingers. until you get it set right it wont work

Is it ok to ask if I should have more or less tension when trying to use this tool?

it takes practice, some locks have different spring rates in each cylinder to make them harder to pick. just keep tightening and try again
