Hello all, new member 2nd post.
I am in the process of re-keying the locks in my Nissan Pathfinder (1994) as when I bought it from a co-worker he only had the ignition key. I removed one of the door locks and took it to a local locksmith and had them make a key to fit the door locks. Now after re-keying a new glove box lock I just bought for the truck I decided to re-key the door locks to match the ignition key. Yesterday I went to a local junkyard and pulled 15 Nissan locks from various cars and pathfinders, mostly to have a variety of wafers to use.
I pulled 2 ignition lock cylinders from 2 of the trucks at the junk yard but could not do so with out destroying the ignition lock housings.
Last night I removed the wafers and springs from 4 of the lock cylinders that I got from the junkyard and cleaned them really good, I than re-keyed 2 door lock and one ignition cylinder to match my pathfinders ignition key.
I need to know if it is possible to remove the ignition lock cylinder with out destroying it, I just spoke to my local lock smith who said this is possible as long as you have the key that fits the lock, which I do have. I searched online and on here but did not find anything that pertains to Nissans.
Thanks for any help you can provide me it will be appreciated!!

Thanks, I have the FSM's for 94 thru 97 pathfinders and pickups and can't find anything about the ignition lock in any of them. I understand about the restricted access sections. Hopefully someone can PM me the info I need. Appreciate your reply, thanks

I know with a lot of ignition barrels they need to be picked or with key to the first position to remove. Never done it so cant help you anymore than that.

Maybe I'm missing something here... You have the ignition key, right? Just rekey all the other locks to work with that key. You'll have a key which works all your car locks without the need of messing with the ignition. Cheers

That's often the case. Unfortunately, I don't know about the '94 models, but '96 Pathfinders really look like they're not meant to be service-friendly: once you get the ignition off the steering column (which looks like a pain) you then need to back out pins that are holding the cylinder together... and then reassemble the whole works. I agree with femurat: I'd be inclined to rekey the doors and glovebox, rather than messing with the ignition lock in this case.

I'm going to re key my car to use the same key as my pathfinder, I have re-keyed the door locks for the pathfinder already, just need to get new outer chrome caps for the locks, than I'll do the hatch lock, the reason I'm asking about the ignition is I plan to re-key my Sentra to use the same key as the pathfinder so I will need to do the ignition lock as well.

I may have misunderstood your original question, then; wouldn't you need to remove the ignition from your Sentra, instead of your Pathfinder?

Sorry about not being clear, yes I will have to pull the ignition lock from the sentra, I was removing the ignition locks from pathfinders at the junkyard because there were more of them there. I figured they would be similar to do.
