new Schlage "SecureKey" technology(?)

Postby jpasquini » Fri Jun 10, 2011 6:04 am

Hi, just signed up recently here and studying to be a locksmith. I wanted to post that I just went out to Lowe's today, and was surprised the aisle is suddenly full of a new kind of entryway & deadbolt locks called "SecureKey Technology"-- supposedly 10x more key combinations, and 'pick resistant'. They are made by Schlage but not sure if other companies are going to jump aboard. 'Securely Rekeys in Seconds'.

My question is- are these locks still pickable with the standard tools, are they manufacturers hype or are they going to run locksmiths out of their profession? I have never tried to open one myself as of yet.
Wanted to know what people here thought.... thanks!

Hi, Jeff,

Welcome to LP101! There have been a lot of threads here discussing the SecureKey over the last year or so; if you search around a bit, there's a fair amount of information. Here's the first few links that Google returned:

Schlage will stop producing the Securekey locks effective immediately.
Seems Kwickset has put the screws onto Schlage.
