Alot of places are already aware or becoming aware of what people are doing and what they are obtaining key blanks for, that's why some want sell them that way.
The local Walmarts here have already be notified by Locksmiths and local Lawenforcements about what goes on.
But there are places online to get blanks, may cost abit more but alot less hassle.

@lockpick1968:

ROFL...

If you think Walmart cares about what you do with the keyblanks you buy LOLOLOLOLOL...

All they care about is if your cash is real and whether your credit card transaction is approved...

"Local Law Enforcement" could care less about such things -- no Walmart employee who cuts keys is licensed, if licensing is required to cut keys in that jurisdiction Walmart won't put a key machine in the store...

Locksmiths look at the issue differently, if they know who you are and why you need the keyblanks they will have no issue selling you the items by the box at the standard mark-up... If you are someone they don't know and you walk in and want five of this blank and five of that blank you will be walking away disappointed...

I am a locksmith and have been for years, what I was preferring to is someone that is not certified personel goes in there and ask for them, which I have been in there and witnessed more than once young teens trying to purchase blanks and was turned away, because they know what they are up to.

I gotta agree with the local locksmith on this one. I wouldn't sell anyone blanks who I didn't know and trust, a year or so ago I went to buy AXA blanks at my locksmith store and the guys specifically said "I know you're ok, but promise me you'll keep these for yourself will you?"

There was a series of AXA bike locks back than that could be opened with blank keys if you knew how. This locksmith and I know each other for years now but I'm pretty sure he wouldn't give those to anyone else..

As stated before, especially teens up to no good can do things with blanks you really don't want them to do. I filled my very own bump keys out of blanks back in the day, with just a key file, and they worked!

don't expect a locksmith to want to you do the same thing he does- it's not good business, let alone the ethical questions.

E-bay usually has blanks for sale. If you can make friends with a local apartment building manager, they often have their own blanks to cut their own keys, that might be another route.

otherwise, the smaller hardware store is the best way to go

I'm a locksmith and if the keyway isn't restricted and/or high security then I'll sell most people a blank. The way I look at it is you can make a bump key from a cut key as easily as a blank. If people want extra security they can buy a restricted keyway of a high security lock. Just don't expect much difference in price between a blank and a cut key.

You might just want to buy a box of 50 of the most common type keyway in your area,

Try the internet, theres a place called ebay that might have it if you cant google it somewhere else.

I tried yesterday at the ACE hardware store and the guy looked at me like I was crazy and wouldn't sell me any. NOTE; I am crazy but I don't need to be looked at that way. So around here in Ne. they're
weird and very unfriendly. So don't try to buy any if you're passing through.

sounds like hes got "oldlocksmith syndrome" try the younger guy, I know for a fact that my local ace hardware store will sell me blanks for 75 cents apiece. needed one last week for an ACE brand laminated padlock, the big 22 dollar version. key looks so much like a common master blank but its actually thinner and master blanks won't do it, so, yes, ACE has the price set for selling blanks.

Hi,

I have been looking for Abloy classic blanks with no success so far. One possibility would be these beauties, although it would become very expensive to practise.
These have been for sale many years now and I think it would be easier to buy blanks for decorative reasons or as collectors stuff. And only 8 euros a piece

Figures in these keys is a thin plastic coating which does last quite well in use. Is there other lock brands which use this kind of decoration in keys?

OK, thanks for the info. It´s a shame though it isn´t so unique than I first imagined.
You can get your credit card and stamps made from your own picture. When can I order my keys coated with fotos I took personally? :P
