What set should I get?

Postby panda bear » Wed Aug 03, 2011 10:10 am

I am a beginner at lock picking and I am looking for a lock picking set under 30 dollars. I'm looking at then PXS-14 and I was just wondering whether that is a good beginners set. If not, give me your opinion on what set you would recommend.

Thanks very much,
The panda

there are TONS of threads about this.... That being said, i would recommend building your own set cause there are a lot of duplicates in those sets. but anyway, get an assortment of picks because you dont really know which one will prefer to pick with until you try a variety.

This is what i got: 2 short hooks, long rake, s-rake (looks like batman), small diamond, medium diamond, slim line hook and diamond, offset diamond. Wrenches: standard, slimline, double sided (slimline/standard) long and short twist flex.

i would suggest against the W rake (the big chunky one), and the broken key extractors... they just dont work.

also read through all the old threads about this and decide for yourself ;)

I started off with the PSX-14. While they're very basic, they are good to learn with. Picked my first lock with them :)

Just wanted to interject here, lockpicks.com sells individual picks so that you can assemble your own kit. I recommend just buying very basic tools at first...the above suggestions are good. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking you need lots of fancy tools and picks when you're starting out, but you just don't. The basics will do.
