Simple lock to pick

Postby austinc » Tue Sep 06, 2011 5:24 am

I'm new to picking and I plan on buying the suggested pick set here: http://www.lockpickshop.com/MPXS-14.html

Can someone recommend me a type of lock that would be simple to pick? Not to many pins and not to complicated, so I have something to practice the basics on?

Go to Target or Home Depot and get a Master Lock No.3 with the blue plastic bumper on it. Very fun to pick. or go to Walmart and buy a Brinks double deadbolt for $12, it will provide hours of fun and you can easily take it apart and learn all the parts and build up your skill level.

Welcome to the hobby

If you want to spend a bit more money you can also go for something like the Ultimate Challenge Practice Lock. I have one and it's been a pile of fun/frustration. And as Squelchtone said, the Master No. 3s are also fun. Just make sure you don't pick the one your wife relies on. The look she gave melted one of my picks!
