The only problem was the spools were almost completely useless in the brinks deadbolt :(
I just picked it like a normal lock and it opened, nothing special. I'm gonna switch around the pins and put in a few more spools from the second cylinder and see how that goes.

I too bought a Gatehouse deadbolt. I am not sure what I am doing and I have read several tutorials on rekeying but I am unsure as how to get the actual lock cylinder out. I basically am holding the assembly with the piece that attatches to the actual bolt to turn it. There is like a sliding clip that appears to be holding the cylinder in place, and I removed it but I am wary to proceed as I am not unsure of what I am doing.

Here you go:

*** That white plastic tube in the manual is called a plug follower, you can make one out of anything that is about 0.500 inch in diameter or ask real nice at the Home Depot or Lowe's rekeying / key cutting center, and maybe the person working will just give you a spare one. A wooden dowel works well, so do pens and markers if they are .500 inch diameter.

This how-to video may help you as well if your Gatehouse is made like this Schlage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZVWV0R9OmI

good luck,

Thanks squelch tone for the quick response! My tail piece is different which is what is throwing me off. It has a "U" shaped clip on the back of what appears to be the lock cylinder itself. If I insert the key it will allow me to pull the plug out after removing that "U" piece from the back if that makes sense. I just want to be sure I am not going to mess up because I dont know how to remove it before what that guy in the video refers to the timing piece. If this does not make sense I can try and upload a photo. Again I am eager to learn but apprehensive about tearing into it haha

With your key out of the lock. Pry that clip off, try not to deform it as they are cheap and if it is too loose your lock may lose the clip after you rekey it. I use my pin tweezers and or a small pocket flat blade screwdriver to ease the clip off. Once the clip is off insert your key turn it a little I do about 90 degrees, then slide the plug out with your follower. Rekey to a new key, and with the new key in the plug slide it back in and turn back vertical, hold your thumb on the front of the plug and slide your key out. Now reassemble the clip and tailpiece. If your key didn't pull out then one or more top pins are too long and you must change them.
