Hello Im somewhat a Newbee. Im currently deployed to Afghanistan. I picked up lock picking to give me something to do with my down time. Started with the master locks Working my way up. Ive gotten my hand on 5 cases of different US gov locks. 5200 DG big and small and the one I can't find any info on is the US Commando. Ive taken the pins out of a 5200 for practice. Thats my goal lock right now. Ive only opened a few and not by skill. I started with hand maid spring steel sweeper picks. Maid them with my leather-man. Moved on to buying from southord Great costumer service and a military discount that i didn't even ask for. Is there a trading board. I don't need 75+ locks. locks for picks and tools, not allowed to sell them. Just thought I would put it out there. I also find locks all over just lying on the ground with no keys. I have about 15 5200s and cut locks i stopped picking up but i have a bunch. Thank you for all the information and help...

Hello! My name is John,

I am a weapon technician in the Canadian Army. In being a weapon tech, part of our duties is security containers. The basic skill set allows us to change locks, combo's, re-key, and minor forced entry. It also covers theory of operation of various lock types and methods of securing. Our advanced skill set gets more in dept with advanced forced entry, breaching, and in verse repair of the lock and its associated container/door.

That being said... Its always fun to learn other peoples methods and techniques. We all modify our own according to what works for us, and what we have learned thew experience. And if we don't share these with like minded people, we would never learn anything new.

So, thats a little about me and why Im here, Enough said? Lets get the party started!!

Hey guys! I'm a total newbie with my first pick set on the way! I'm not sure what to do, I've just done a little reading on it and thought it might be a fun hobby. Any help is appreciated, but I'm not sure when I'll have time to hop on and off the forums. I'll try to post any questions I have, but until I get my pick set I'm kind of a sitting duck. Hi everyone! I've had an interest in locks and locksmithing since I was seven years old. For my 9th birthday my grandpa (he used to pick locks as a hobby) gave me his set of HPC lockpicks and showed me how to use a tension wrench and a rake or hook pick on a pin tumbler lock. I then began practicing with a five pin cylinder, inserting one set of pins at a time until I could proficiently pick the set. However I stopped picking when I was about 13 so I can't say that I'm all that proficient when it comes to lockpicking. I did however pick up re-keying pin tumbler locks pretty quickly and by the time I was 11 I had keyed two Schlage cylinders on a master key system where one key would open both cylinders and a second key would only open one of the two cylinders. Anyway, over the past few weeks I got out my picks and have occasionally been practicing with various cylinders and padlocks I have lying around the house.

Hello I find lock picking to be incredibly interesting! I have a few tools with the basics and I tried and tried to pick my locks, my friends (with their knowledge) and I was getting so frustrated but I FINALLY did it on 2 different locks!! Yay! I am quite proud :)

I'm a long time lurker that's been reading the public areas as long as I could stand without joining. About 12 years ago I got in to locksmithing mainly from a desire to learn to pick and supported myself through college as a locksmith working under a master who'd being at it 60 years. Its been 6 years since I was active but I've kept up on my picking habits. I've worn through to many picks to count and have only recently went out and actually bought another set, having relied on self made picks for the last 3 years or so. I'd forgotten how much nicer pro picks make things.
Anyway, just wanted to say Hi, and that I look forward to getting to know you all.

New to picking and to the site. I don't have any real tools but ordered some from southord not too long ago. I've picked Master #3, 140..several TSA locks, drawer locks and a Tri-Circle 262. Well I bypassed some of those and picked others. My tools are paper clips and bobby pins (shaped into a hook) and they seem to work okay, but I'm excited to get my real tools. Ready to get my learn on!
