Help on what Locks to buy? New here

Postby CJ42 » Mon May 07, 2012 11:02 pm

I am about to make a larger order of different locks, Im not very good at keeping up with my keys so I would like to have a common key to most of the them if posssible.

Looking for

around 10 pad locks
few cable locks
trailer locks

anyone know a good website? are some locks better than others?

Humm, I do'nt know a website for such a order. Though I know if you'd go through a local Locksmith they'd be able to easily get what you need, it may be a little more expensive than standard store padlocks, but you'd know the keying would be done right.
I know you could get the padlocks and trailer locks all keyed alike. And I'm pretty sure you'd be able to get the cable locks too.

Where are you firstly? That will enable people with local knowledge to offer advice. In the US there will be different lock offerings than there would be in Europe, Asia, Australia etc.

I would visit a local locksmith. Part of their/our job is knowing product lines that can solve a problem such as yours. Sometimes unless the locks are rekeyable your order will be a factory order. Also keep in mind that buying a keyed alike number off the shelf will likely result in others in your area having the same key series for their keyed alike locks. KAA numbers are generally limited to as little as one or two changes to a maximum of about 10 changes per region.
