Yale driver pin assembly

Hi! When ressembling a 5 pin Yale (or similar), is there a recognised method for keeping all 5 top pins and springs compressed while the plug is inserted? I've been compressing one, sliding the plug over it, then compressing the next... etc. It works - but I reckon there might be a better way which I haven't figured out. Thanks. Chris.

yes you have to use a plug follower try searching there should be some good post's about them

cred: I think he is asking if you stuffed up and didnt use a plug follower and the top pins/springs come out. How do you put them back. Would a shim help here?

you stiil have to use a plug follower to put them back in (top pins and springs) if you take a look at a plug follower they have a groove cut out at one end,which then you can insert the follower into the shell of the lock,line the groove so it's vertical with the first hole,drop your spring in and then your pin,pushdown on pin with small screwdriver and gently push the follower over the hole thus trapping it in.then go onto the next ect ect.

Okay - excellent - that's the question answered. I completely dismantled a 5 pin Yale, then changed the bottom pins around to change the picking order (saved buying a new Yale practice lock ). Just wanted to know the best way to keep the top pins / springs pushed in while the plug was reinserted. Thanks for your help guys.
