REAL review of DX pick Set

Postby MacGnG1 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 12:15 pm

Review of "Advanced 9-Piece Set Lock Picks" - http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16417

This set comes with 9 picks and a twist flex tension wrench, it also comes with a weird tension wrench but I dunno wtf its for.... the twist flex is a bit thick and doesnt fit in all my locks, but it is a good solid wrench.

There are several different sized hooks, a rake and what I think is a dimple lock pick (thats what they decided in chat). The picks are pretty sturdy but a few were bent from shipping but not too bad. They come with hard plastic handles and are larger than my southord picks. It is shipped in a plastic pouch. I have had them for several days and they are a pretty good set of picks. I also like having a variety of hooks to work with now.

Results: Moderate Quality but Great Value!

Okay so this set is 6 bucks shipped to USA an it is definitely worth the 6 bucks. So if you already have something in your DX shopping cart .. add this pick set! ;)

I just ordered some too, sure it seems too good to be true, but at 5.96 a set and free shipping there's not much to lose

Why does the check-out say I need to enter a new credit card becuase my old one is expired.

If this site thinks it's going to take my information and run. I will find them.

Anyone else ahve this problem with there "so-called" expired card?

I used the paypal checkout and all the domain matched up but still there is something fishy.

Your videos didn't answer- "why this web site is asking for credit info on expired cards... that are not expired".

WHy are you so quick to post 50 mad smileys.. you have stock in the company?

I'm asking a direct question so fellow members can refer to this, for either-
1. a good site to buy cheap picks
or 2. someone trying to streel your credit info.

Perhaps my question wasn't direct enough, for those who can take a clue, my appogies for wasting your time.

So.. Why is this site asking for more info than it needs? Riddle me this Riddle me that.

LN21, i have only paid for things on dealextreme using the paypal checkout. they are a reputable site and i have had no problems buying anything from them. i dunno why you got an error i would send DX support an email.

dogr2d2, this was a NON-youtube review ;)

I was impulsive and bought 4 sets, none of which came with that weird tension wrench that is shown in the picture. Some of the picks were slightly bent just as was mentioned before. Two of the kits came with a twist flex wrench, and two of them came with a double ended rigid tension wrench. The double ended one has one side smaller than the other so it proves a little more versatile than the twist wrench. The handles are longer than most. Overall, it's a great little set, and more than worth the six dollars if your tool of choice is the hook (It doesn't come with any rakes).

I fixed the problen and ordered the hooks set, and the 30 piece set.

I will do a full review with pictures.

we'll see how this order goes, and shipping and such and I may just order some other stuff because it;s so rediculously cheap.

But we'll see

I'm curious, has anyone bothered to try out the key punch they sell on DX? At >$50 it's certainly not an impulse buy the way the picksets are, but I'm really interested to know if the tool does a decent job for small batches of keys. All this filing is getting tiring!

I've been doing a good amount of workshops/lockpicking villages as of late. Would these crappy picks be good for throwing them out on the practice lock table? I always get people asking me for picks but I rarely carry more than my personal 3-4 piece set. Last time I did the village i had an extra pick lying around and, of course, someone busted it when I let them borrow it. No big loss, but would this set be decent for what I need? Remember that most of these people will be overly heavy handed with the picks, being beginners and all.

Thanks,
dg
