How To: Lockpick Wallet

Postby Riordian » 28 Mar 2009 7:11

Hello people this is my first topic so I will include some of my personal preferences, before going on to the process of how I made my lockpick wallet.
I am in favor of improvising in matters like lockpicking, and as you’ll see all my picks are homemade.
When I make something I like to keep it at lowest cost possible with as best quality possible, that however takes me time but I don’t mind.

The following pictures shows my finished wallet (unfortunately I didn’t record the process but I will give you instructions and schematics).
ImageImageImage
And the following are pictures that demonstrate the inner parts of my wallet holding up to 18 homemade picks, having two small “pocket” like places where you could put other stuff (1 of mine is used to hold the universal dragon tension wrench that I test) and 1 place where you could put money in actual wallets.
(Credit to this post for instructing the process of making a dragon tension wrench viewtopic.php?f=4&t=19671&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a )

The fabric I used was from a broken umbrella (the small kind of umbrella that folds), you may laugh, but I found out that except the fabric the umbrella skeleton actually has a lot of useful metal pieces (my small tension wrenches are from the same umbrella also).
As you can see it has many imperfections but I don’t care because my goal was to create something that holds my picks.

What I did was skin the wallet and kept the outer part the snake skin like… because I liked it.
The following are similar for anyone that wants to start from scratch.
Now to make this you need to measure your picks height and width, since you will be storing them you don’t want them to fly out of the wallet.
(your total width is your preference e.x.: picks width =2cm and you want 5 for each =10cm + 0.25cm for each spacing, more details later)
The following schematic shows the cover part making and dimensions.
Image
You can use cardboard paper to make the basic outer part then glue-sew the outer design and the inner fabric unto the cardboard paper. Pick one that is strong and thick enough to make your wallet but also a one that can be bend at the middle where the wallet would fold.
The offset distance from the middle is 0.25 cm from the left and right which also are folded and to make sure the wallet is ok picks are stored to avoid damaging the wallet when it thickens by the picks.

The inner part is this… just figure out the dimensions of your preference.
Image
Now you want to take a razor blade and make the seats. Just take the finished cardboard paper and cut along the lines that you have marked. Careful you’d want to make something like this and leave some room (0.25cm or 2.5mm is what I used) for the spacing between the pick seats.
Image
Now cover the cardboard with something to hide the cardboard. After it has dried from the glue turn it around and cut with the razor again those places of the fabric that the pick will pass through. And then cover the other side, but make sure not to put any glue on the big strip from below where you could see the metal of the pick pass. This will cover the inside of the pick and make the effect that the pick is passing inside the fabric and the cardboard.
Finally glue or sew the inner part to the outer (just the edges) but leave one of the big sides unglued or un-sewed so it will form the place where you could money in.
Image
You could take a strip of fabric and super glue it so that it covers their edges and make it look like one.
For the small pockets just take a thinner cardboard and cover it from both sides with fabric. You want to make sure one side is where the fabric folds over to cover it, and leaving enough fabric to the 2 smaller and 1 bigger side excess so it will be turned and super glued to the inner part.
Image

The part that acts like a key chain. I cut its fabric then with a lighter I melted the edges then inserted it between the inner and the outer and super glued it.

Enjoy.

This looks really good!
Every time I open a topic I'm surprised of the level of craftsmanship everyone seems to posses

Its called labor of love. 8) Most of us do this out of pure passion and not really for profit so I think thats what it is.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

True, I made it because I wanted to. I like making things with my own hands.
The best part of this is, you get to make it exactly how you want it, because I think, many would have searched to purchase something but it wouldn't satisfy them completely.
