What about cases?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

What about cases?

Postby Moosekace » Wed Jan 27, 2010 4:12 am

I know that everybody is making sweet picks by hand in there garages and such but what about the case that holds them? Is any body making really nice cases to hold their picks in? Mine still live in their original southord case but its looking pretty sad as the duct tape is starting to wear through. Let's see some pictures f how you store your picks!

I have a fair number of tools; std picks, dimple, various bypass tools. So I found it convenient to store them in a
foam padded pistol case- hardly "pocket size"- but plenty of space to keep tools neat, organized and protected
from most chipping and small part loss.

A nice black pistol case can be bought from BIg 5 sporting goods (or other establishments) for about US$ 10.

I have a tri-fold case from Peterson. I've had it since 2006 and still no tears or stitching coming apart.

I use the square plastic tube that came with my Petersons. It works perfectly, accommodates several picks, and gives me protection against bending.

I use an empty tube of vitamins to transport them easily. :?
It is very "discreet" and effective...

Pain in the donkey to find the right pick and wrench if you have a bunch though...

Clear plastic pencil cases or makeup cases work pretty well, and you can see what you're fishing around for. Not as sexy as something with a 'Peterson' label on it, though.

My leather case from HPC is showing signs of thread failure where the zipper is sewn to the leather. I bought it in 1977; wonder if it's still under warranty?

This is called "Pickwickel" - I guess an English translation could be "pick wrap":

Now that is what I was imagining at least one person on this forum had! that is very cool mh. When you say custom made did you make it yourself or was it custom made for you by someone else? Again very cool. :D

I made it myself, had some material left from a similar project.

This style is particularly nice in locksport competitions when you open it up in front of your competitor :)

and your lock opens by itself, fearing that you will insert one of those picks into it....
